Hard Reboot

Created by: Wilbur
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 1, 2021
Published: Apr. 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This roster is counting on the attraction playing with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl holds for UFA's.

1. Hall takes a 1 year deep discount to take a run at a cup, something he said he would consider during an interview in NJ. His Buffalo debacle might force him to put his money where his mouth is. Plus he had success with Draisaitl when LD was a rookie and Hall may also want to put himself in a good position to play on the Canadian Olympic team. This wouldn't hurt his chances and look what it is doing for Tyson Barrie, who took a pay cut to play in E-Town.
2. Dougie Hamilton might get an $8 million dollar offer elsewhere...but in this Covid economy who is in a position to do so that also offers Stanley Cup contention over the next 5 years?
3. Danault is one of the best tough match-ups centers in the League. This is a contract the Habs seem reluctant to pay, why wouldn't he want to be playing important minutes as a 3C, while being paid what he is looking for?
4. Merzlikins was mentioned by Elliott Friedman as a trade candidate this summer, not sure why. The trade for Koskinen + heart and soul and fan favourite Josh Archibald, plus the very good, very fast Center prospect Ryan Mcleod is a good deal for CBJ in that McLeod appeared NHL ready in his draft year, but has been kept away from the NHL to help him to become a more savvy offensive player. He has greater potential than his brother Michael in NJ and most Devils fans really like their Mikey. Koskinen would provide mentorship to Korpisalo, who would respect him highly given MK's status as hero to many young goalies in Finland.
5. The deal for Patrick seems like an overpay from Oiler fans viewpoint as Bear is an excellent young Dman who still has room for growth. Yamamoto is also a huge fan favourite. However, if Patrick has overcome his health issues and this is still not certain, he could provide exceptional value for a decade or more.
6. Hyman is a bigger Yamamoto and might be too costly for TML to resign.
7. Coleman is similar to Hyman, but would be an exceptional depth player on this team, who could, like all the additions on this roster, move up and down the lineup without missing a beat.
8. Getzlaf likely would not sign, but like Thornton and Spezza signing for league minimum with their hometown team to take a shot at a Cup, this is a similar model with Getzlaf being from nearby Saskatchewan.

Columbus declines, they don’t want Koskinen or Archibald. The only thing you’re offering them that they might want is McLeod for I’d say one of their best signed prospects and their number one goalie. Columbus’s prospect pool is empty, they shouldn’t be moving any prospects.

Why are we trading away Merzlikins after acquiring him?
Also Hamilton gets 8.5-9.5 mill or he signs in Carolina, please don’t give Danault 6.5, another lesser 3rd line C could be had. Hyman on the open market starts at 5 mill at least. Taylor Hall still gets around 6, I don’t know why he’d take such a paycut, if anything 5 mill for a year. But teams will pay 6.

WTF That is worse than when we traded away the pick that turned into Barzal. Merzlikins and a 3rd is enough for Patrick he has had his problems with migraine and then you give them YAMAMOTO who could turn into an elite winger???? We are getting absolutetly slaughtered. The hole village gets burned down. Noone is spared. Even the women and the children gets massacred. And we also give up Bear who is a promising top 4 d. Chiarelli is a great gm compared to you. Even if it was Patrick from 2017 we're not giving up that package. Hall would take a long term deal or another 1 year deal to up his value. He wouldn't sign for that. Danault is not worth that amount 5 mil is enough and even that is questionable. Getzlaf would never sign here for league minimum!!! I don't even think he would do that in Tampa with their low taxes, warm weather and great team. he doesn't have any reason to go here at all.

    Ottawa declines.

Ottawa declines, because you think that Dorion does not value fast physical players. Or because you think that Dorion would see no value in bringing a player like Kahun whose EV scoring numbers have been top 70 over the past 3 seasons and could provide some benefits to his countryman Stutzle.

Or because you over-value Connor Brown. Or because you think that Kassian and Kahun are terrible players.

    I see.

The Philly trade is a gamble that the #2 pick in his draft year eventually overcomes his health challenges and becomes what his potential suggests, a very good NHL Right Shot Center.

The only way you acquire these players is if you give up value. That is what this is and that is why you hate it, just like why Flyers fans hate it, because although you know, they don't know what they are getting.

Carolina can't afford Hamilton, not many other teams can afford an $8 million player. Also, if Hamilton is offered this, why would he not take it, if he sees a few Stanley Cups coming to Edmonton? This is at the heart of all of these deals.

Danault is in the same class as Bergeron and O"Reilly. Cup Champs are built on Center, Defense and Goaltending strength. Danault puts this team up over the top.

Who is paying Hyman $5 million and why would he go there?

Getzlaf is a long shot and was a Flames fan growing up, but he is from Saskatchewan and if it gives him another shot at a Cup who knows?

The defense has been really bad which has let to Hart and Elliott having bad seasons, if philly would look for a goalie this season they would look possibly for Bernier to temporarily help with the situation

It’s reported that Canes already have offered him around 6.5 mill, he wants 8 and on the open market he’ll get that. Canes have Sven and Hamilton to sign and they can both be signed to 7 mill and they’ll still have about 8 mill to spend. A lot of teams have money coming off the books and can pursue him. The Oilers have more than 25 mill.

That’s absurd you’d actually put Danault in the same conversation as O’Reilly and Bergeron, he’s never been a Selke finalist, he’s a solid defensive center but there’s surely other option for that much bank. It’s poor asset management.

Holl surely get taken, Hyman can resign for 5. There’s already speculation he will get it. A lot of teams like Edmonton would kill for a player like him. It’s his last big contract, he’s getting 5 mill.. a lot of teams can do that, he’s not some depth player

Getzlaf is a reasonable option a big right handed center who has experience
