If...

If the Rangers decide they want the cap space over the buyout they could make a move like this to say Detroit and Detroit could just buy him out.

If the Rangers are not planning on hitting the cap next season then yes they just do it themselves.

And they probably/99.9% will

But depending on Seattle and who they take, maybe they're in a worse cap spot than they thought and they offer a pick for someone else to buy them out.

Is that like, offensive for you to think about? He's not coming back. It's just a cap move.

Yzerman is big on character so I seriously doubt he brings Deangelo to Detroit.

DeAngelo would have never gone to Detroit. his contract would have for 2 months and then he would have been bought out.
