Tyler Johnson still has 3 years left so a buy out would leave 6 years of dead money. Not wise with a flat cap and pandemic still here.

It’s not too bad ~$1.5m per year.
Worth the cost to acquire a good d-man.

I would be fine with one of Foote or Dumba. Having both might create a log jam. In this scenario, I prefer Dumba because Im not a fan of the Johnson buyout

I’d agree with you but I’d wager they want him in Tampa. Expansion is going to make his path into the lineup that much easier.

I like all of the ideas. I do think NJ could get more value in the TBL trade. When I try to break it down piece by piece I think it sort of works out like:
Wood (with retention)=1st
Moving full Johnson contract=1st

Foote+3rd ≠ 2 1sts

I know the idea of an offersheet is not popular on here. But NJ could viably offer Foote 3M-4.2M with some term and make it almost impossible for TBL to match and the compensation is only a 2nd round pick. I don't foresee it actually happening but I think that leverage could impact trade negotiations. Think they could find a way to acquire Foote and eat Johnson contract without sending a player of Wood's caliber the other way.

I am not big on offer sheets since they either (a) rarely work or (b) never work. I don’t think Tampa just gives him away for free (they could just work out side deal with Seattle too).

I know others are higher on Boqvist than I am. I'd consider that Wild trade though, it's fair value for Dumba.

I'm really not sure if it makes sense for MN though with the expansion draft. MN would lose Soucy (maybe a goalie) to the expansion draft with this trade. So it turns into Dumba+Soucy for a 1st + Boqvist. MN might just be better off losing Greenway to SEA and keeping their d-corps intact.

What gets Dumba?
A first pick and an expansion-exempt young center I figured would fit.

If I were MN, I would protect KK and the 4 d-men and roll my dice with the rest of the roster.
Assuming they take Greenway, Foligno or Talbot.
But if Dumba were to get his ticket punched, I'd think NJD would be good spot to deal him.

All I am saying in one of the worst draft in terms of value in a long time, wild already have two 1st round pick, & don't need another one

Take away the 1st round pick along with bovquist, & add Zacha

What's weird is that the NYI pick could be the best 1st of MN, NYI, and PIT. Before the season I would have picked it as the worst of MN, NYI, and PIT 1sts.

True. Do you think in your opinion having potentially three 1st round pick in 2021 is a good thing?

So just Zacha for Dumba?

2021 draft isn't bad...probably better than 2020.
Nowhere near 2019 or 2022 though.

Yes maybe add like a 2nd , & wild add 3rd because of what wild gm is asking because wild already have two 1st round pick , & joel Eriksson Ek has locked up a top 6c on wild

Then wild c prospects are
Marco rossi
Alexander khovanov
Marat Khusnutdinov

I am pretty sure another c is being selected with wild pick

I'd rather have a 22 1st. Having 3 1sts this year wouldn't be awful. It would give a lot of flexibility on things to do at the draft. Trade up, trade down, go safe with one pick and take a couple of shots with the other 2, use it as trade bait for a player, etc.

Eichel trades don't work for MN because BUF doesn't need Dumba. Spitballing here: 3 1sts+ Rossi (would prefer it be Marat K)+ Greenway would make the cap mostly work for MN and be enticing to BUF. Lose Soucy to SEA, resign Cole, Menell and Addison get roster spots next year.

Log jam? With who Walsh? Other than Mccarthy there is no one on the right side. Pernell is gone after this yr if he makes it without being moved. If we get Grahme hes not playing this year. Carrick no thx. We are a mess back there. Now if they got Hamilton or if teh heavens opened and Jones signed from CBJ (yeah I know, no)

Zacha is a tricky one. As a center, he is a 30-point 3c who does pretty well matching up against top lines.
But as a winger, his point production doubles.
This year, Devils have moved him to LW along with Hischier at C and Bratt at RW and he has performed rather well.

I'm sure he would be on the table for trade...but just know, his scoring at center will be similar to JEE

I'd be fine with the drop in points as a center. Boldy/Fiala, Zucc/Kaprizov, Greenway/Foligno, Parise/Hartman as the wings. JEE, Zacha, Sturm, and Rask as the centers. Makes 4 lines that are hard to play against, and can all score.

Logjam with Dumba, Severson, Foote, and Walsh. Even Smith can move to the right side if we have Mukamadullin, Bahl, and Hughes/Edvinsson on the left

PK and Foote would only overlap a bit I think.
Fitz moves Pernell early in trade season imo
Honestly I want a big signing on the right side
Hamilton or Jones! Why not go big

Just realized with your post that Jones is a UFA not this yr but next! Ugh. I still hope they manage to get Hamilton on a high $ medium term deal
