Big question mark on getting McTavish at draft and whether he can step into a role right away, pretty critical to my plan.

Avs decline, a 2nd round pick isn’t enough incentive to move graves

That's odd -- virtually every single Colorado construction I've seen for the past two months has Seattle taking him for nothing.

Which two of the following ten guys WON'T be taken before McTavish?

Power
Beniers
Clarke
Edvinsson
Eklund
Guenther
Hughes
Johnson
Lysell
Wallstedt

I know that you don't need a goalie, but I'm surprised that you wouldn't prefer any one of the others to McTavish

My best guess from those would be Lysell & Wallstedt. I can see the appeal of having a skilled power forward (McTavish) considering those guys have a major appeal for playoff hockey & very rarely get moved.

If Lysell, Johnson and Wallstedt are the ones available at #8, I see my crummy local team taking him; he fits our needs so well.

Doug Wilson should take Wallstedt at #7, but he won't.

Breaking news, avs wil lose a good player in the expansion draft no matter what

So why make it worse losing a good player and also trading graves for draft picks

So avs are better off letting Seattle take donskoi and then trading graves for a pick or just letting Seattle take a guy and not make 2 holes in the avs roster

Seems pretty logical not to make 2 roster holes for no reason

So in your mind, losing one player is better than losing two players but getting a second-round draft pick.

I can see the logic in that.

For a team trying to win a cup right now yes only losing 1 player is preferred over making 2 holes in the roster and only getttiny a draft pick that you might see a player out of in her nhl 4 years later

Graves helps the avs fight for a cup, a draft pick does not

Graves is not untouchable but if a team wants to trade for them. It has to contain a piece that helps the avs nhl roster, can’t be futures only

That and if it is pre-XD it has to be for exempt NHL pieces or an over pay. Graves while not perfect does represent significant value to COL for depth, flexibility in his ability to play in the top 4 and kill penalties. A month ago I would have said Graves was probably a lock to be the XD pick. If the Avs thrive sans Kadri particularly Newhook I could see the Avs trying to do something with Kadri and trying to work a deal with Seattle to take someone besides Graves.

Ive seen him rated as high as five, VAN needs a RHD and Centre prospect. Read yesterday some scouts think he would be rated much higher if he played a full season in Canada
