But I wonder if they would do for Seth Jones retention and a 3rd.

So you eat $1,350,000 and you think you're getting a top 9 pick? Got news for you that's basically a 3rd round pick not 1st round pick. Even for one year of Loui Eriksson Benning isn't surrendering a 1st for him. He either buries him or buys him out.

Not a bad idea but the problem is CBJ would have to get that Vancouver 1st in any Jones trade, and NJD would get a much lesser asset

The obvious problem is Vancouver’s number one trade chip for landing Jones, this years 1st rounder, is no longer available since its was used to needlessly clear cap space.

If Vancouver wants to add a player like jones, they would have to fit him around LE’s cap hit. They can’t afford to land a big name AND dump their worst contract

Interesting idea but im not sure it will work. Another idea is to move up from the Islanders pick to the Canucks pick by eating salary

It's super cool to see proposals like this and yeah the 9th overall pick in a meh draft seems about ok for that though maybe a bit much given Van not contending
