Jones and Domi - Skeleton of A Trade

Created by: PhillyDip123
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2021
Published: Jun. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I thought this would be a good starting point. What would you add?

2019 eleven million is different than 2021 ‘cap is not going up for a few years’ eleven million. Tavares is the captain and has a NMC, Matthews is a generational goal scorer, and Nylander has been excellent (especially at his cap hit). It’s not likely but interesting to think about.

Why are you trading Marner for a rental in Seth Jones?

It’d be with an extension, I would imagine. And this is just the barebones, I would think there’d be picks involved.

I think both teams decline. Marner's contract is not desirable for Columbus given that they're likely tanking, and TOR wouldn't move Marner for rentals.

If Marner is so bad for Toronto, why does every stinking Leafs fan think that Columbus would want him (and his horrendous contract) for such a perennial playoff under-performer???
Besides, CBJ need is center (and RD when Jones leaves), not RW.

The blue jackets would accept but they can’t because the cap won’t work

Agreed. Under normal circumstances, I’d be fine with this trade, particularly because word is CBJ were going to offer Jones somewhere in the realm of 8 x 10 anyway; but, rebuilding means Marner would just come here, waste two years while the team is ****, and cost a lot.
