Why would you retain more on Koskinen than his buyout (1.5m/2 vs $2.25m?)

What's crazy is I heard this conversation and it went:

"Alright, Jaden, Blake, Ryan, what do you guys want in free agency? A 5-6 million dollar contract? 5-7 year term?"
"You know boss, we've been thinking, and we want whatever that mediocre Alberta team from the 80's want to pay us"

What's even crazier is the Anaheim trade convo went practically the same way.


I'm not even mad, I'm just disappointed that you didn't take just a minute to consider the other options for everyone involved here. 2-3 years for some of the better FA's out there? Anaheim can't squeeze more than a 2nd and a goalie you need to get rid of for cap reasons? Why don't all teams just do this to improve themselves?

Yeah! Definitely a valuable player now and tricky to replace his skillset in FA so he's certainly worth mid level money. But overrated + likely to decline soon.

Thanks on the RNH estimate. This is one where I deviated the most from Evolving Hockey’s estimate. Shorter term gives Nuge a shot at another contract once HRR jumps back up.
