Small Moves Big Results

Created by: JohnPance
Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 10, 2021
Published: Jun. 10, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Clifford will add some size and "Grit" and is not a defensive liability. Sure scoring isn't a big thing from him but we don't need a 4th line that can score at will. In addition, Blackwell and Nick Paul are good players that can score and are effective on D.

I think this team is solid at both ends. We have the youth but we need the veteran solid Defensive forwards to balance the skill while saving money and room for bonuses and growth.

The Detroit deal looks OK value-wise but Detroit already have 9 waiver eligible wingers penned in for next season and I doubt that Yzerman would trade for a player only to have to waive him.

What in God's name is that Ottawa trade? Why are we giving up Chytil for that, instead of some Mid Round Pick?

Chytl has potential but is a terrible Center. His value is not high. Nick Paul is a very capable and defensively reliable forward that could ensure a competitive and responsible 3/4 line. Should Chytl command more, yes, will he, doubtful. You can’t trade for players that teams don’t need to move and not overpay.

I’m addition, Howden SUCKS, and it would
Literally be a cap dump. Also, you can’t have all young kids on the team to specially in shut down roles. You need someone who knows what to do. Nick Paul played for a garbage Ottawa team and did very well, one would assume he would play even better for the Rangers and he’s very cheap which is essential for this team for the next few years

Yeah I don’t think so. Goalies with his caliber and his age are getting paid. If he’s not paid what he wants, he will leave. The term is really important here. I am not a fan of max contracts as they’re stupid, see Kreider and almost every other max contract ever. 4 years is a safe term that capitalized on his prime and allows him to make a decision on his future. Also it gives us time to groom another goalie as needed

Then he won't be a C. He may be playing out of position, but he still has a lot of potential for the future. And is just coming off his ELC.

Nick Paul is solid Defensively, but he's a bottom 6 Forward entering a Contract year.

And you're also asking for Howden, on top of that. If anything, I would go as high as Howden and a 4th. Good player, but not a desperate need for 1 year of him.

So you want to pay him Binnington money after playing less that 50 games? And you think it’s justified. I don’t disagree he is a high caliber G, but so was Hank, what was his contract?? Let me tell you..

05/06 ELC 53GP
06/07 ELC 70GP
07/08 4.25M bridge 72GP

Then 6yr x 6.7M

I’m not arguing with you that the price is scary but at his age and with his career already I think he’s going to get paid or maybe walk away. Don’t forget he was paid handsomely in Russia and would be paid even more now. He’s also 25 years old. Hank was also grossly underpaid then cost us a fortune in his later years so this could be a way to build some good faith and maybe save some millions down the road ... there’s no wrong answer here. We will see what happens

Wait, Chytl aside, you think Howden is an NHL caliber 4th line center? Howden is terrible, he’s a cap dump in this trade, that’s why I’m giving up Chytl because you have to overpay to move Howden. Howden is not good

Losing him is the only wrong answer so we will wait and see what happens 🤞🏼.

We know Howden is terrible. Didn't know if you did.

Either way, he's not making enough to be a Cap dump. We could just cut ties with him altogether by not Qualifying him, if need be. By no means are we that desperate to get rid of him that we need to sacrifice Chytil.
