Additional Details:

I think this trade works REALLY works for both teams. Obviously the canes are stacked on the defensive end, however with Skjei most likely being taken by SEA and them dumping Gardiners contract, it leaves an open spot for the 2nd defensive pair, and pettersson can fill that spot perfectly. From the pens perspective, we get EXACTLY what were looking for in a trade with Pettersson, a decent young player, and a 2nd round pick. That is exactly what the pens want for pettersson. At the beginning of the year pettersson was worth two 2nds. Now he is comming off of a down year, but he is still young and can thrive on a very good defensive team as in CAR.

That's an easy no. I like Pettersen, but it's far more likely they just keep Gardiner on the 2nd pair to provide offense for Pesce, and run Bean on the 3rd pairing. A RHD would have been interesting though

Just the offensive / defensive versions of each other

But similar value

With Carolina about as in need of cap space as Pittsburgh after their upcoming RFA deals it seems odd to suggest they'd take another 4Mish D 😕

It's like they finally 'escape' 🧐 the Gardiner deal

Then take on another immediately

For a fair cost in 2 useful second rounders

With a good number of useful L D that are similar to Pettersson in terms of style and ability available in FA for around 2.5M$ I'd see CAR purse that instead

I think carolina can get a better d-man cheaper without giving up anything in FA. This would maybe work if MP had less term

I'd take MP side of the two, but not sure why Canes would need him.
If Skjei is selected by Seattle, would they have still to dump Gardiner?

Pens fans trading Bjugstad on capfriendly for a mid-late pick
Capfriendly users: “Omg you’ll have to retain half and give up a 1st and teams still might not bite. He will be impossible to trade”
Reality: Pens trade Bjugstad for a conditional 7th and retain 50%.

Some things never change. Every penguin is a cap dump that no team wants and the pens will have to give up assets just to get rid of lol

And his contract doesn’t really suck. It’s the going rate for top 4 dmen. Probably on the cheap side compared to some. It’s not like he is 35 and on got 4+ years left.
