I'm confused by the Wild deal. How does adding 8 million in cap give them a ton of space in the short term?

and welcome to ACGM

Savard will get more then that, as others have said that deal doesn't help Minnesota gain cap space.. Lol

Both Johnson and Francouz are on LTIR.

Both Johnson and Francouz are on LTIR or am I confused on how that works, I am not sure. If thats no how it works ignore that trade.

So your idea is for us to pay our best defenseman prospect and a 2nd round pick for two players that will sit on LTIR...? And Johnson will definitely be off LTIR eventually, so how exactly does this give us cap space once he is healthy? This trade makes absolutely no sense for us. I don't see us having any interest whatsoever in Johnson.

Edit: also, not trying to hate here. Welcome to capfriendly, but ultimately this doesn't solve any of our needs and doesn't help out our cap situation (if you even want to call it a situation, it's really not that bad compared to, say, the Lightning). If we trade any of our prospects it will be to get a long-term top line center to play with Kaprizov. I think Addison is probably not going anywhere even in a trade for a 1C. Guerin acquired him in the Zucker trade and was in Pittsburgh when Addison was drafted, plus many Wild fans view him as the eventual Dumba replacement since Dumba will likely be moved this offseason for cap/expansion purposes.

I honestly don't think Colorado has to do anything but bring back the same team. This team is elite, and will be for a while.

I think the only thing they need is a traditional shutdown Dman. Idk if that’s EJ or not but someone to deploy in the tough defensive positions. That and Kadri not getting suspended.

Here is a link to sole LTIR FAQ's
https://www.capfriendly.com/ltir-faq

It is confusing but basically trading for LTIR players doesn't really help at all. It's really only useful if you're using it to move players out that have a bad cap hit and replacing them with a guy that is going to be LTIR
For example:

When Tampa traded for Gaborik and Nillson last year it wasn't to gain additional cap space it was to get rid of Coburn and Paquettes contracts. Ideally they would have just moved those guys without having any contracts come back. But presumably, the cost to do that was too high so they opted for a trade that took back guys that are on LTIR. Ottawa wanted to move Gaboriks and Nillson so they don't have to pay for the contracts of two guys that aren't even playing. Tampa accepted that they will pay the remainder of those contracts in order to get rid of Coburn and Paquette's cap hits so they could get below the salary cap.

Also, welcome to CapFriendly. It's a fun place, lots of negativity in the comments most of the time but awesome when you get a good discussion going.

Thanks for the FAQ, that Tampa Trade is exactly what I was woefully "attempting" to do. And also, thanks for the welcome!

Alright constructive criticism time:
Helleson is going back to BC.
Weiss, Boikov, Barron and Jones aren’t getting contracts imo.
Steinburg who knows he broke his leg.
Soderberg, Burroughs, and O’Brien aren’t going to be re-signed.
MIN isn’t doing that trade, though EJ would probably waive.
DAL isn’t doing that trade.

But most importantly where in the hell is Byram? He WILL be in the top 4 next year as he already proved he can handle this year before the injury.

I think in an ideal world EJ comes back healthy (big if) plays on the 3rd pairing with a heavy emphasis on dz starts and anchors the pk. I’d like to see them get a bottom 6 C that is good on face offs, and a bad ass forechecker. The aggravating part is with 5 minutes left in game 3 leading 2-1 they just laid back and let VGK attack and attack.
