Look at all those picks. Then you have Foudy, Bemstrom, Malgin, Dermott on prove you belong here years which could find a diamond in the rough. Build through the draft. Team would have a tough year but Vilardi would be huge to add for a rebuild.

The Kings won't risk losing Vilardi for 1 year of Jones. Besides, the LA right side is currently fine with Doughty, Roy and Walker. If anything, they need to address the left side.

I sincerely think the Jackets and Kings don't fit as trade partners for anyone other than Werenski, and Columbus wouldn't do that.

8th overall, Vilardi, and Walker for a one-year rental in a position you are not as desperate in as LD. Or just wait a year and make your offer then.

Conditional picks based on a player re-signing are no longer permitted as of the 2020 CBA renegotiation.

Why would the kings ever do that,if they want they can trade up in the draft with Columbus or just get lucky enough to grab a defenseman that will be better than Jones in 2 years.

Right side is fine with Roy and Walker? Really?

Currently, yes. If you don't watch Roy, you should. He's a legit shut-down 2nd pair defender even on a good team. And Walker is a serviceable 3rd pair defenseman at the moment. There are plenty of other holes on the LA roster that are much more glaring.

A discounted Nyquist would be a risk worth taking for the Oilers. I'm assuming CBJ would want more in compensation if they're eating salary though.

That's great if you're trying to be a bubble team every year. They have Macdermid also, Jones would change the entire outlook of their D corps.

Roy and Walker are fine for the short term. They have Faber, Grans, and Spence coming up through the system, who are all RHD that project to be quality NHLers. It doesn't make sense to give up this kind of haul for a player that, at best, would be a 2RD behind Drew Doughty.

I'm not disagreeing that Jones is a better option than Roy/Walker. My point is simply that there are areas on the Kings that could use an improvement more than the right side of the defense. As a result, I don't believe they will be trading to address the right side before other areas of concern. Besides, with the fact that Jones is a UFA at the end of next year, along with him stating out loud he wants to test the market, the Kings could just approach him next year if they really want him. They certainly won't spend Vilardi++ to get him right now. I'm sorry that's not what you want to hear, I'm just offering my view of the situation from an LA side.

(Also, MacDermid is a LHD, not a RHD.)

I guarantee LA is a player on Jones. They have Turcotte, Byfield, Kupari, Thomas and Anderson as potential future centres.... one of them can be expendable for a player like Jones...Not to mention they have Kopitar who is producing still. And I wasn't comparing which hand Macdermid is but the roles... And I can see Jones having LA high on his list of destinations he'd stay long term with. I know it's not what you want to hear but....

Imagine having Doughty and Jones on the ice for 50 minutes a game.... while having the youngest, skilled forward group in the NHL up front...

Trade up in the draft to buy a lottery ticket? This draft is unique, it could be very good or very bad... and 2 years? Last time I checked Dmen take a lot longer than 2 years to fully develop. Jones is only 26.

Sure, one of them could be expendable for a player like Jones. It just won't be any of Byfield, Turcotte, or Vilardi.

I'm totally okay with Blake checking in on Jones, and agree that there is no doubt LA made an inquiry. It's his job to look at options to make the team better. However, in the end, I just don't think it happens. Maybe Jones would be willing to sign in LA, but that's too big of a risk to trade one of your top 3 prospects without any sort of guarantee.

I dont think it takes too much to be better than Jones at this point, especially when he's gonna ask for 8 mil dollar extension, and he's barely worth half that.

I am sure they will have permission to see what Jones is thinking before a team trades for him... if he says 100% not signing then no... move on.. but having him on LA would be huge for the sport. Jones saying he wants to test free agency means I don't want to play in Columbus.

I rarely follow analytics,in fact I thought Jones was decent a few years ago,but I always look first from the Kings standpoint. I dont think Jones is worth giving up Vilardi,Walker and a 1st for,I mean even the Jones from few years ago that I liked I dont think is worth that.

The Jones Johansen trade has worked out similarly for both clubs, both were good first and then fell off the cliff, and now Jones is about to get paid like Johansen and make it even between them.

Jones was an absolute beast in the last 2 playoffs for CBJ. CBJ was not a good team this year and had Werenski out for most of it.

Make it Kupari, Walker, and the #40 pick this year and LA would go for it. Any more than that and LA shouldn't do it. The highest valued trade assets (2021 #8 overall, Turcotte, Vilardi) should be reserved for positions of greater need (top line forward, 1LD).
