Detroit declines. EJ has 2 more years left at 6 mil AAV. Start with a 1st. Sakic won't do that. EJ will remain in Colorado.

Erik Johnson is twice the term and quadruple the cash compared with Staal. On top of that he plays a position where we already have 4 good players and he's injured and only played 4 games this season.

The cost for Detroit to take him on would be at least two 1st round picks.
