Exactly this. The value is fine, but Larkin is untouchable. To acquire him, a team would have to MASSIVELY overpay, to the point that their GM should be fired if they did it.

I hear you. But I wonder why people assume this. He's a UFA in 2 seasons. Do we believe that he's okay with not getting a shot at a cup until he's in his 30s? His signing the previous deal to get to UFA should hint at a desire to control his own destiny. Like I said, just a thought. NYR and Stevie Y like to work together.

He has said multiple times that he wants to play his entire career here and be a big part of turning things around. I think the previous contract was more a matter of controlling his financial destiny and betting on himself.

The reason he is untouchable is that Detroit have nothing to replace him with.

You'd have to include a 1-for-1 replacement player in the deal before Detroit could accept, just like Washington did in the Mantha trade.
