Description
Handshake deal in place with Dougie before expansion draft.

Canes dangle Skjei and Gardiner contracts in front of Seattle. Seattle declines and takes a cheaper player in Fast.

Tampa dangles all sorts of contracts in front of Seattle. Seattle declines and takes a cheaper player in Foote.

Carolina decides to make Tampa's cheap reserve plan for cap compliance more painful. Does it amount to anything more than quick matches?

Zero chance the Leafs ever make that trade... A top 4 prospect and a 2nd for a bottom 6er lol

Necas is exempt, and Gardiner isn't going to be dumped. When he's healthy, he's great. Use him as LTIR fodder when he's hurt

Foegele would easily be in Toronto's middle six. He'd actually probably be a really good cost-effective replacement for Hyman

How is a guy who plays 13-14 mins a night and never gotten 0.5ppg worth a really solid d prospect and 2nd round pick?

I still think Detroit gets a 2nd in this deal, not a 3rd...

Brain fart, wrote Necas, meant Trocheck. Amounts to the same set anyway.

I really do think they move one of Skjei or Gardiner, if not this offseason then next. $4m is a lot for a 3LD with back issues and other long-term contracts to sign.

Other Leafs ACGM have asked for Foegs for:
      - a 2nd and SDA
      - a 3rd and Holl

This value certainly can be adjusted, but it's not entirely out of line with other things I've seen.

The Tatar signing seems very unnecessary when Lorentz is still here, and you have other players who could make the team next year.

I don't think Colton is worth a 2nd, and it would do the same thing for Tampa if you bumped it down to 2.1M, in the range of 3rd round compensation.

If you don't sign Tatar, there's your 4 million back to keep Gardiner, who may LTIRetire because of his back issues and not be an issue when it comes to cap and Bokk, who could also make the jump and be an NHL forward next year. If Gardiner is healthy, then they could bury his contract in the AHL for 1.1MM in cap relief. Holding on to Gardiner for another year also lessens the cost if they absolutely need to ship him out next year, because a team would only be taking 1 year of contract.

Lillegren would be a nice add, but I don't think Toronto does that with that 2nd there. Take the 2nd out and I feel like then it's a fair deal, or at least one that Toronto accepts.

He shows up in the playoffs.... something no one else in Toronto (Spezza aside) did

Makes more sense, I was wondering why Trocheck was exposed and yet Fast was selected.

If one of them is to be moved, it will be Skjei in the expansion draft. He's been FANTASTIC in Carolina, specifically shorthanded. He'll be exposed because Bean, but it's very likely Fast (who has done very little) will be deferred for the much more usable Skjei. Even at his higher cap hit, he's a better player.

He did show up in the playoffs in 2019, but in the last 2 years, he only has 3 points. Not exactly showing up.

Lol yeah wow you're right, 3 points in his last 18 playoff games... Much better than everyone in Toronto other than Spezza. Hating on the Leafs for no reason lol don't see Carolina lifting the cup this year either

That's crazy to me... There's zero chance the Leafs would give that up. Holl is a top 4 guy at $2M. Unless the Leafs go 7/3/1 and want to trade a dman pre expansion for a forward but they could get a much better forward for Holl/Lily and a 2nd/3rd pick
