Post Marner team

Created by: Leafsfaninvancity
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 9, 2021
Published: Jul. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kerfoot taken in expansion draft. I've looked at the ESPN team rankings for prospects and which tiers each falls into which category and I think my trades are fair.
Wings get an ELITE playmaker in Marner that's also capable of putting up 30 goals BEFORE hitting his prime. Before you yell at your screen and type angry messages, go watch Marner highlights, look at his stats for the past three seasons, then re-evaluate what you're going to type. And Detroit has a ton of cap space aquiring a guy that just turned 24. So the trade is one of the best forwards in the league, 3 B level prospects, for an A prospect and a top 6 winger.

ESPN article https://www.espn.com/nhl/insider/story/_/id/30619753/ranking-nhl-prospect-pools-top-prospects-breakouts-pipeline-status-more-all-31-teams-2020-21. I'll do a team for 2022 as well.

Unrelated but niemela a B? I kinda of understand lillypad since it's taking some time but that just on Keefe not knowing when to use him. Both are better than a B.

I would rather take less, and not give up Seider, but I know he's the main piece in this deal. It is Actually not to bad for value wise. Just doesn't make sense for Detroit, marner might have one year left of his deal when the wings are a playoff team, then no guarantees that he reups with them. I think I would prefer team control of Seider for the next 6+ years or whatever it is. But I do love they idea of marner coming to Detroit.

In my eyes Liljegren is a B+ / A-

same with Niemela. He won dman of the tournament at the world juniors. Now obviously that doesn’t make him the best under 20 dman in the world but the guy is still a really good player.

You should get your prospect reports from better sources. This trade is absolutely disgusting.

Seider is cornerstone type of talent. Freeing up 10 million while aquiring a top 6 winger in Bertuzzi does alot for this team. I really can't make everyone happy.

Sorry but your “cornerstone piece” has never been on the ice for a single second of nhl hockey.

You do realize we could trade Matthews for 5th nylander for a 7th and marner for future considerations and get 30m in cap space…. Although the cup champs were over the cap by 18m so maybe cap space can’t buy a cup.

Tyler Bertuzzi - 26 years old, bad back, never broken 50 points.

Exactly the piece we were missing ... 🙄

And before Marner or Marthews played one game they were considered cornerstone pieces for the Leafs. Yes they were high picks, but so was Seider. I am not saying he is the same player, please do not assume I am saying that, but a young big defenseman who was the top defense man in the Swedish Hockey league is a pretty good indication he will be good if not excellent.

He was the 1st pick of a Yzerman lead Wings team, and he has a pretty good track record of drafting, from his Tampa administration. He is young and will have growing pains, but he has shown in a men's league he can play. I just do not see Yzerman tesding him, as was excited to select him in the draft and seems to be the right choice.

Yes he has never played in the NHL, but can not see Wings trading for Marner and can not see them trading Seider.

Absolutely no knock on Seider, I think he will be a very good nhl defencemen. But s he the cornerstone of a cup contending team? No… is he a piece we need right now with Brodie Holl liljegren and Dermott on the right side? No. Leafs are better off keeping liljegren and niemela than chasing seider. Not to mention giving up Hirvonen and marner for Bertuzzi.

Matthews was a cornerstone… came out 4 months after being drafted scored 4 goals in his first game and went on to win the Calder.

Marner and nylander are nice pieces to start building with but Matthews is the engine.

Why is because you have no idea what you are talking about and I pointed it out?
