Ottawa gets a RHD defenseman that they desire, very mobile and versatile skater. They also get Parise which is only really getting 1-2 mill a year in real money and raises Ottawa out of the cap cellar for the next 2-4 years.
Ottawa has no problem reaching the cap floor. Instead of spending all that cap on two players, Ottawa could spend wildly on UFAs and be a better team,.

I also think it’s a very real possibility they may want to spend in 3-4 years with their current core. Parise doesn’t make sense to OTT.
Dumba is a different story but I think we’ve hashed that out already.

They could sign UFAs and then have to actually pay them what their cap hit is. With Parise, Melnyk saves real cash compared to what Parise's cap hit is, which really only works of they immediately buy him out so he's free to sign somewhere else to chase a Cup. Doubt he'd waive his NMC to go to Ottawa if they're not competing in the next year or 2.
The point here is to remove the Parise 4 year contract since he wants out.
Dude Zach Parise isn't waiving his NMC from his homestate of Minnesota to Ottawa. First off he doesn't want to play in Canada he's already stated that numerous times and right now Ottawa is still the worst Canadian team in Canada there's no freaking way.
What you guys are missing is that Parise just wants to be bought out, if he stays in MN it will be a limited role, 3rd line where he clearly isn't happy. From Parise's perspective, he want to make money and 1 mill a year isn't it.
