Thats an overpay for Rakell. All of his value was in his deal and now that its only for 1 year I don't see him getting more than a 1st and thats at the deadline not in the offseason

I don't see the logic in the last phrase of your sentence -- why is a quarter of a season of a player worth more than an entire season? -- but this is a big overpay for Rickard.

That’s too much for Rakell. And Graves doesn’t really fit Ducks needs.

A few reasons.
- A team like Col is making the post season, so all that matters is the post season. There really isn't THAT much value in regular season games for them.
- In the off season Rakell is competing with numerous UFA's and teams having the most available cap space they will all year. Ana has the least amount of leverage here as there are the most options
- Cap hit is paid in a per game basis, so at the TDL he will naturally come at 40% of his offseason contract, which can then be reduced futher.
-At the TDL Ana's leverage will be the highest. So if you go by TDL history and say he could probably get a 1st at his high point, then in the offseason when its his lowest you have to adjust that to maybe a 2nd.
-The TDL forces rash decision and clubs know exactly where they are at and what the need. In the off season teams have all the time in the world and their teams are pretty nebulous.

Interesting. It seems so counter-intuitive to me, but I can't find a single flaw in your reasoning.

The NHL is really complex because you are constantly working with concepts like opportunity cost, leverage, imperfect information and some really serious skill gaps in ability of FO's.

If Rakell had been moved the past 2 years the return could have been massive because that term made him a Coleman esq player AND Ana had the leverage to not move him. At this point any 1 year player is a rental and the UFA market is going to be flooded with cost effective players due to the flat cap.

If you are at the TDL and its 'we can get this guy or not, do we think he is the missing piece we have 1 hour to decided' teams can do some silly things. In UFA its more like 'we have 20 options and we think we want to see how this prospect in our system turns out in a few months, why are we giving up major assets for this guy? We have 3 months to figure it out"

Like if you are a bubble team just trying to make the playoffs then maybe you value it a tad more but most of the TDL values come from pressure and rash decisions more so than the actual players

Yeah got to agree with Meeqs that’s an overpay compounded by the fact you made the 1st a 2022 1st for Rackell. If they knew they were going to lose Landeskog I think the most obvious target would be Hall.

I donno, hall and landy are completely opposite type of players. Here we've lost landy and were able to keep saad and bring in hyman, they play more a similar style to landy than hall. Plus Hall is happy in his second line role and doesn't want to be the big guy who's relied on anymore. He would be nice to have but i donno if he has the heart to step up in the big moments now.

Fair enough, my concerns have more to do with Hyman and his ability to a) stay healthy b) produce at a level commiserate with his contract, 41pts is his career high not taking into account this year and c) imo he’s the kind of player when the end comes it comes sudden and is drastic so how does that contract age.

understandable, since i have him slotted 3rd line here, i think we could maybe go after coleman in his place here as well instead. But i think the player we're going to need an all around type player, our scoring should still be fine it think

Landeskog is going to re-sign so it’s all moot
