Wow this is probably the closest Bertuzzi to Toronto trade I've seen! Swap Anderson for an LHD and its good to go.

I'm not sure Toronto would give up Nylander.

They would only trade Willy if it meant they were able to sign Landeskog.

Yup you can tell it's capfriendly when a wings fan thinks Bertuzzi would be remotely close to landing Nylander. A player who is far better, and hasn't had a debilitating back injury. Lol

DET takes that and runs.
Now if it was Marner they would decline as fast as possible.

Trading a 50 point guy and a 1st for a 60 point guy and an okay prospect. With what Bertuzzi brings in grit and defensive play is very valuable, although I do believe nylander is the higher skilled player.
Debilitating isn't really the word I would use, guy got hurt, got surgery, will be ready for the start of the season.
Bertuzzi is expected to have a cap for between 4-5M where nylander is quite a bit more at 7M.
The fact Bertuzzi doesn't need to be traded and don't believe he is even being shopped.
Toronto gains a good two way player who could easily put up 60+ points in a season with the leafs, adds grit, good forecheck and good defensive play.

I just find it funny you don't see red wings fans posting trades with Toronto for Matthews or marner for like dekeyser and Neilson and a fourth or something

Nylander would have been a 70+ point player if not for the pandemic. He's a better goal scorer, better play maker, more talented and hasn't missed an entire season basically from a back injury that required surgery. That isn't a minor issue. It's a major injury.b

There is a 1st and Anderson is a career AHL player. Plus I did say the leafs probably won't trade Nylander.

Bertuzzi and a 1st for Nylander.is not as ridiculous as Engvall for Bertuzzi and a 2nd

Detroit doesn't have a roster spot for Anderson.

Make it Der-Arguchintsev instead and it's a deal.

Bertuzzi is just a small fish in a tiny pond. He's at best a 2nd or 3rd liner on a team that has actual 1st or 2nd liners. Nylander is a top line player on pretty much any team and top 6 on all teams.

That’s odd considering Bertuzzi >= Hyman and he played on your top line.

What does that matter? Hyman fit well with the stars but he's also just a secondary piece. He isn't a star and whoever gives him his 5+ million a year ask is going to instantly regret the latest Andrew Ladd signing.

You’re saying he’s at best a second or third liner but clearly the same type of player (Hyman) is on your top line. Everyone loves the skill guys and don’t appreciate the “meat & potato” or “piano pullers” that help those skill guys immensely. It’s also ironic that you’re saying Willie is a top line guy no doubt but Bertuzzi could be a third liner which just proves my initial point.

What point does it prove? I don't think Hyman is a top line player. I think he's a great depth guy who benefits from playing with better players. I think Bertuzzi is similar but with a lot of injury concerns. Nylander on the other hand is without a doubt superior to either. He showed in the playoffs he can be a dominant player. These are not comparable players. So to think you are getting Nylander for Bertuzzi and a 1st is ridiculous. You need more

Sure people are saying that Willy is a way better player and that the leafs loose this trade. But you have to look at the whole picture, leafs only do this trade if they can sign Landeskog. Willy is great but I would much rather have Landeskog, Bertuzzi and a first.

My point is Bertuzzi would play on the top line and fill the spot Hyman had. Doesn’t matter if you think he is top line or not, that’s the role he’d take. It’s laughable you say third line but can’t provide any justification other than your personal opinion with no supporting evidence. That’s a weak argument. Hard to really say Nylander can be a dominant player in the playoffs when he’s never had a sample size in a season to prove it. No one is arguing that Nylander isn’t more valuable than Bertuzzi. I’ve also never chimed in on the trade but rather your logic behind your post so not sure your point there. Let’s not act like medical records & physicals don’t come into play when trading… also it’s one injury so I wouldn’t say “a lot of injuries” but rather a single injury.

Yeah. I just don't like his attitude. The entire playoffs he tried to do it all himself but in the worst way. He shot when he should have passed and passed when he should of shot and it very much negatively impacted Matthews. I just don't like his whole, "I'm a star and I will take it all on" attitude. You're a world class playmaker, be fine with that being who you are. You don't need to be a clutch goal scorer too. The leafs have 3 guys way better at that than him.

For me it’s simpler than this

The dude’s been awful for 15 ish playoff games now, his game has stalled and hit a plateau and I don’t think his game style can translate well to the playoff one where hockey is much tighter

I completely disagree with that. He's had success before his contract. I think he just gets in his own head and thinks he needs to be more than he is. He has the opposite problem that Nylander had in that Nylander wouldn't elevate his game and would fall off. Marner goes too far the other way and wants so desperately to be the hero. He needs to understand that he can be a hero by doing what he does all season long which is give the puck to Matthews in great spots and let him score. Sure Matthews may get the glory but that doesn't matter, it leads to team success. I am not sure Marner is as big a team guy as he needs to be.
