How does that make any sense for AZ? You trade your 2 best players for another teams junk (who all have terrible contracts) and all you get is a ninth? Judging by the Ladd trade a fair deal would have looked more like:

AZ gets : the three overpaid senior citizens and the 9th overall pick.
VAN gets: a 7th rounder.

You can't tell me all you could get for OEL and Garland was a 9th overall pick and 3 overpaid old bums. Come on.

I think Garland will make less than Boeser -- closer to $5m.

I like that forward group quite a bit -- the defense could definitely use some work, but maybe Schmidt gets dealt and they sign/acquire another top 4 defender.

it was nice of the NHL to let the Capfriendly folks do the trades this year. Not wise though.

Wonder if Myers for Silfverberg would get done.

OEL only gave yotes 2 teams he would be willing to wave to go to, so yotes where screwed on that part

Since when is OEL a bad dman? Overpaid? Maybe slightly but with AZ retaining 12% he's hardly overpaid on the Canucks books.

As of right now, AZ would be $44,338,334 under the cap next year. Got a lot of large contracts coming off the cap next year.
Their best players are all younger.
They are looking at rebuilding. What they had was never going to work.

I think he has too high of a cap hit for VAN -- they should try to unload one of Myers or Schmidt (probably not that easy) to free up the cap space for Pettersson + Hughes (and Boeser next year)

Its cancer.

The 10.5M in real salary price tag for the next 3 years is huge salary savings move

What if you look at it like this, though: Vancouver is giving up LOTS of cap space, and that is the price they're paying to get OEL. 7M+ is still 7M+, even if it's a great player by NHL standards.

Also, OEL probably will be considered even more overpaid in a few years.

Edit: When did I say he's a bad d-man?
