Rielly trade ideas

Created by: EnKay29
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 3, 2021
Published: Aug. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
All trades are under the assumption that Rielly signs a long term extension with the team, making the return a bit more than usual. Also, the trade/free agency market has been crazy for defenceman. Rielly is a top pair D man so he should fetch a lot. Seth Jones who is worse than Rielly and signed a bigger cap hit got Boqvist, a first and a first round pick swap. Rielly should get more but he wont.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Coronato, Matthew [Reserve List]
  2. 2022 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Coronato played for the Chicago steel and the leafs hired the former GM of the steel. Coronato is also going to harvard where Abruzzese goes. They also pick up an extra first (potentially 2 seconds) to either trade at the deadline or select another good prospect.
CGY
  1. Rielly, Morgan
Additional Details:
Calgary gets a Giodano replacement for a prospect and a top ten protected first. If the first lands in the top 10 of the draft the leafs get the 2 second round picks. Calgary gets a top pair D man for nobody off the current roster.
2.
TOR
  1. Brink, Bobby [Reserve List]
  2. Frost, Morgan
  3. 2022 1st round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
This is the Kyle Dubas package of all Dubas packages. A former Soo Grey Hound and a forward that is 5'8". With a good medical staff the leafs hope to help Frost get good again. Plus with the development staff hopefully they can make a player out of Brink.
PHI
  1. Rielly, Morgan
  2. Engvall, Pierre
Additional Details:
Rielly makes a top 4 of Provorov, Ellis, Riso and Rielly. That is a really good top 4 that can compete with most teams. Plus they just gave up a first for Risto who sucks and rielly is signifigantly better. Engvall gives them so good young center depth. Frost just missed an entire season because of shoulder surgery and Bobby Brink is a good prospect, but rarely do 5'8" forwards work without elite skill and he was under a point per game in college for 2 years.
3.
TOR
  1. Curran, Kodie
  2. Terry, Troy
  3. 2022 1st round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
The leafs pick up Curran who more than likely plays on the Marlies but could play in the NHL in a pinch. Troy terry, who is good friends with auston matthews, can compliment one of the big lines well on a reasonable contract. They also pick up a first round pick in the trade to keep or flip at the deadline.
ANA
  1. Rielly, Morgan
Additional Details:
Rielly is only 27 so he fits the timeline well enough to still be good when Anaheim hopes to be competitive. He also immediatly becomes The ducks best D man (maybe Lindholm). The leafs are also helping the ducks by taking on Currans contract so the money tight ducks dont have to pay 1 million for an AHL d man. the cost is Troy Terry, who is good, but he is a 24 year old that has never scored above half a point per game in the nhl. A first round pick that is top 10 protected for next season. its a middle 6 forward, an 30 year old AHL player and a first round pick for a top pair D. I think that is very reasonable.

I think Reilly is like Tyson Barrie. If Barrie went to a team, let’s say for example purposes only, like the Nashville Predators, where they really don’t have that true superstar forward yet. And before you say that they do in one of Johansen, Duchene, or Forsberg, they have all been outperformed by Roman Josi for the past couple of seasons. If Barrie wasn’t able to pass to McDavid and Draisaitl, how well would he perform? The same goes for Reilly. How well would he perform if he wasn’t able to pass to Matthews, Marner, Tavares, or Nylander? It would most likely be safe to say that he would not perform as well without that superstar finishing from the forwards.

That is... Stupid. Barrie is incompetent in hockey IQ. Rielly is. He just had a terrible d partner until Brodie

It's the rule on here. All Leaf players are worth nothing.

Worth nothing or aren't a NHLer (kerfoot)

Well, I think those overpays for Reilly. And I don't know why "win now" Leafs what trade Reilly. But I thought those Jones and Ristolainen trades were obscene overpayments by Phllly and Hawks. So as mentioned above,'What is Reilly's value."

Im curious what teams you think could use Rielly than?

Honestly I’m not sure.

LA maybe, Vegas possibly even, maybe NYI (they are lacking an LD if I remember correctly.

I’m not actually sure though.

Lol. You don't have to know much about hockey to know that Kerfoot is 100% a NHL calibre player. & that's coming from a non-Leafs fan. If you can't admit that, it's a pure anti-Leafs bias opinion cause that's the dumbest thing ever said.

Im not sure if this changes your opinion on the trade but i said in the description that these trades are under the assumption that he signs an extension as part of the trade!

@Salzy is still right. The Ducks don't need another late 20's LD. Lindholm is better and Fowler would have to play on the 3rd pairing which will only create logjam in a couple of years with Thrun, LaCombe and Zellweger eventually being NHL ready. This is just bad for the Ducks. And yeah no, we're not giving up Terry. He's the Ducks best forward aside from Comtois. He's good defensively, drives the play and is just a good forward overall, even if the point production isn't there yet but maybe that'll happen next year. And he had great chemistry with Comtois and Zegras. And the 2022 1st isn't being traded for someone like Rielly. It's definitely a no from the Ducks.

Ah yes this BS narrative again, it takes elite talent to play with elite talent and be productive - Oilers are prime example of this as they have spent the last 3/4 seasons trying to find wingers that can play with their elite Forwards

I didn’t miss it, Philly just got fleeced. No other team with a brain would’ve done the trade….

And the Jones trade? The reality is this Rielly is in the same tier as Jones, Werenski, Hamilton, Pietrangelo etc. He's a top pair offensive defenseman who quite honestly has better defensive numbers than most offensive defenseman and they got better when he got a better partner
