I mean this essentially is: give up two of your best three prospects to upgrade Kopitar to Eichel. I think the Kings are better set long-term as they are, Furthermore, Kopitar is more likely to start the season playing.

No reason to do this for the Kings.

Hard pass from Detroit. Don't want him for free.

I wouldn't do a single one of these trades or signings except maybe the Wagner one.

Trading Kopitar is not smart. LA was put on eichel the moment they signed danault

That's a fair deal for Eichel but most fans don't want fair deals.

Oh just checked if you were a LAK fan, I should have known you were not.

The only one of those deals that even remotely favors the Kings is the Detroit one, and as the two Red Wings fans so accurately comment, Stevie Yzerman would never agree to it.

The Quick trade is particularly egregious. Los Angeles wouldn't pay to move Jonathan Quick because the Kings have absolutely no cap pressure, unlike the Golden Knights, who didn't have to pay to unload Marc-Andre Fleury's far more onerous $7 million cap hit for a team that was already over the cap limit.

After next season's draft, the Kings will have have 5 draft picks from the past 6 years in the top 11 that will become the future core of this team (Yes, I think they're going to finish in the bottom 11 again this season). Those picks turned into Vilardi, Turcotte, Byfield, Clarke, and whomever they take with next year's pick. You're suggesting that LA trading 3 of them away (plus Kempe and a 3rd) for one player with question marks surrounding his health and attitude is fair? Not a chance.

Byfield is untouchable, but I would say fair would be including one of the remaining four, plus a lower-tier former first round pick like Kupari, plus Kempe and another roster player or B prospect. Any more than that is highway robbery.

However, all of this became moot once LA signed Danault. They're officially out of the Eichel sweepstakes.
