I think the John Moore cap dump would cost something extra

Need to see Lysell or Beechers name in there even if it’s at the expense of Debrusk or Vaakanainen. If not, Sharks decline.

You want Beecher over DeBrusk or Vaak?

I wouldn’t mind either, but we need centers and/or high end talent. Debrusk slumped last season and Vaak hasn’t proved himself yet as well. Studnicka would be interesting too.

You know teams sometime take unwanted contracts/players in order to make a deal work in order to get the player/piece they do want. Not every undesirable contract needs to be paid to be taken in a trade. It’s a narrative that seems to be lost these days. Not saying that’s what SJ wants, just that taking Moore to get what they do want is acceptable practice.

Moore at 2.75 is a lot different than Skinner at 9 or Eriksson at 6. There are different kinds of bad contracts. A usable 3rd pair defenseman making 2.75 instead of the 1-1.5 he should be making is not even close to being in the same category as a true cap dump. If he is being dealt alone to get rid of him is completely different than if he’s added to a trade to make the $ work to make the trade happen.

He’s played 90 games, just over a full season, for Boston. Posted a stat line of 6g 12a 109hits 122blocks which is better than most of the 3rd pair defenseman in the league. Overpaid…absolutely. Unusable/worthless…no. Cap killer…no. Cap undesirable…yes.

I'd swap Beecher for DeBrusk in a heartbeat lol. Beecher projects as a middle 6 guy if he reaches his ceiling. Personally I don't see him being anything more than a 3rd liner.

Boston. Over the cap.

Hertl: $5.625 million
Hill: $2.175 million

Studnicka: $769k (off-roster)
Swayman: $925k

Yes, I suppose so.
Maybe if they moved Coyle.

Boston has 1m in cap space available. No supposing about it. Reality is both team decline for different reasons. Boston for finances, SJ for value.

No he is not that good (not yet at least)
But he would have been secondary piece here.
Main part of deal would be trading 1-year of Hertl for 7+ years of solid goaltending.

Yeah im just not sold on it. I dont trust young goalies at all, and Hertl should get a massive futures package if we deal him so thats more important.

trading a top 30 center for a goalie who has played 10 games isn't exactly a smart risk to take.

I understand the point you are making and for the right team it would make sense. The package just needs to be worth it to take on an DeBrusk and Moore when DeBrusk isn’t very intriguing and there isn’t a spot for Moore on the Sharks. I could see the Sharks taking one if the other assets coming back were better. I’m not one of the Sharks fans who thinks Hertl is worth the moon, but he also isn’t getting moved for underwhelming assets either.

Keep Beecher. Young, fast, good size and on an ELC that can hopefully play on the third or fourth line? Sign me up. Then Boston does not have to overpay for mediocre, aging third and fourth liners like they did this year in an attempt to bolster there bottom 6. With Marchand and Hall on the top 2 lines DeBrusk is expendable except he has little trade value as of now. He is going to have to reinvent himself into the type of third line player that all good teams need if he wants to stay in Boston. If he does that maybe they can work out a contract with him or at least get some value for him in a trade. Another poor year and it won't even be worth giving him a qualifying offer.
