Devils and Wings easily pass, Reilly just isn’t a good fit for a rebuilding team like New Jersey, and Ty Smith is a big part of their future. Dermott just hasn’t proven enough to be worth a 2nd. Wings also have plenty of LD in their pipeline.

If Detroit was willing to give up a 2nd for Dermott he'd already be a Red Wing. Honestly I don't think Yzerman would even give up a 3rd for him. I don't think Toronto should trade Dermot with the amount of cap they have tied up in their top 2 lines a defenseman with a cap hit of $1.5M for the next 2 years is much more valuable to Toronto than the return he bring in.

Nj would only do the deal if Reilly agreed to a contract extension first.
