I'd do that NSH deal.

Byram - Soderstrom

that would be a pretty good future top pairing for ARI

Huge overpay for two bottom 6 players. I believe Byram is going to be a decent second pair defence man.

In Arizona, yes. On a good team, no. He produces roughly 30 points a season. He’s a top end third liner.

Trading a potential top 1-2 dman for 2 bottom 6 guys is bad asset management

Byram is more than likely the future partner of one Cale Makar. Dude has all the ability in the world. Add some experience and he'll be top pair soon.

Definitely, but he isn’t a top pair defence man. In my opinion, he will be a solid second pair defence man that will probably play top pair.

If Graves played top pair with Cale, almost anyone can, right? But having PP1 with Cale and Toews and PP2 with Bo and Sammy is a hell of a 1-2 punch from up top, no? What a luxury to have a top-4 D of Cale, Sam, Toews and Bo and the other guys are no also-rans, either. I do think the pairs shake out a bit differently, though. Just need those forwards to stay home a liiiiitle bit longer and they'll get over the hump.

I agree with you, I just don’t think Byram has the potential to be a true top pairing defence man. He will be good, and I agree that he will thrive with Makar. You guys do have a good future on defence, and with Justin Barron in the system!

I think the assessment on him is that he's borderline, maybe a 2 but probably a 3. The back end is in very good shape for years to come, assuming the don't screw anyone's development up and they give guys a an honest shot.
