Rangers say no chance in hell. We aren’t contenders and have no reason to make such a trade right now. Kane isn’t getting that return from the Rangers. If someone else wants to make a dumb move like that, all the power to them.

Are you insane? Kane and panarin on a line solves your 2nd line center problem. Put Reaves between those two and he'll put up 60 points. They'd be a playoff team

Um how does that solve the center problem if there’s no center between the two. I think you’re forgetting the cap side of things for us. How do you suppose we resign Mika, Kakko and Fox then, replace our 2C and stay under the cap. Then you trade away Kravtsov and Nils who are both gonna be cheap contracts. This makes no sense for us. This isn’t NHL 21.

Reading comprehension isn't a skill of yours clearly. With kane and panarin on a lime you could literally put anyone between them. Hence 2C is solved. Also kane is half retained so you can easily make the cap work to since your free agents but I do find it hilarious you named kakko with mika and fox. Kakko shouldn't get more than a mil on his next deal.

I’m not gonna argue with someone who refuses to listen to logic. Rangers say no to this deal and move on without thinking twice.

You have your opinion and I have mine, it’s as simple as that. This move might help for 1 year, but is pointless in 2-3 years.

Why do you think toews is worth that much?

He’s still a first line C. Or at least we will see next season if he is or isn’t worth that.

This move is for the season after the one starting in ~1.5 months. Kane is still a world class player and could probably be signed to an extension by a team opening their contention window… what exactly are the Rangers doing next year if not contending?

He was when he last played which was a really long time ago and who knows what he’s got left at age 34. That return is near Eichel level and while Eichel has some injury concern it’s much more likely he’ll get back to his level than Toews will get back to his. Plus Toews would have a year left even if you’re going best case and saying he’s back to what he was 2 years ago.

This team is set after the “current season” and for superstar players like Toews and Kane 34 isn’t necessarily too old to be effective. This means both players have 1 year left, and using the Pavelski and Ovi contracts as comparables, it’s not inconceivable that the acquiring team signs them to reasonable extensions if they want to compete.

I don’t think you can use the argument that 34 isn’t old for superstars and throw Toews into that conversation since he literally just sat out an entire season with health concerns. Even if he bounces back this season and looks good no team is betting on him continuing to play at an elite level like other superstars into their mid 30s with what he recently went through.

Again, they could just go after JE with a similar package.

Before you start, don’t think about it.

Running (or stumbling perhaps) with the premise that we move the last of the core because they won’t resign after their contracts are up.

Based on his level of play in the bubble, I disagree that he couldn’t continue a high level of play going forward. Given, there is a ton of uncertainty surrounding him… but if he comes back and is elite then the only implication his health condition will show is in the contract he gets going forward. In this trade I’m assuming he plays at a high level again.
