No. Coleman is worse than Hyman, and Zadorov is worse than Keith. Yes, Keith is overpaid but better, and experienced. I like our signings and trades, and can’t wait to see them play.

Interesting question, it'll be fun to watch how the season plays out. Looking at 5v5 points, both Hyman and Coleman have scored 47 over the past 2 years, however Hyman played fewer games: 94 to Coleman's 121.

Yes Coleman is good, but not near as good as Hyman. And he’s overpaid! Zadorov is good, and is a good hitter, but Keith has the playoff experience, and is better defensively. In my opinion, our players that we got is better, but yah, you could say Keith, and Zadorov is close. And, don’t worry, Zadorov is walking after this year! Haha.

Blake Coleman last 2 seasons:

2019-2020: 66GP, 21G, 11A, 32P, -2+/-
2020-2021: 55GP, 14G, 17A, 31P, +15+/-

Zach Hyman last 2 seasons:

2019-2020: 51GP, 21G, 16A, 37P, +13+/-
2020-2021: 43GP, 15G, 18A, 33P, +19+/-

Hyman’s got a slight edge on Coleman, but he also has an extra year and 600k more per year so it’s pretty even. I’d take Zadorov over Keith, he’s not great, but at this point neither is Keith, and at least Zadorov is extremely physical while Keith is just getting older, and Zadorov is 1.75mil cheaper. I prefer Calgary’s signings slightly as it stands, we’ll have to see how Hyman clicks with McDavid (will he be about the same as with Matthews or find a new gear?) and how Coleman does in Calgary (he’ll get more minutes on our 2nd line, can he push 25 goals?) to really make this decision. The D will be determined by who sucks the least, and in those situations I generally bet on the young guy.

Bear in mind Hyman was playing with Matthews and Marner on the top scoring line while Coleman was playing with Gourde and Goodrow on a checking line lol

Might be biased but I prefer the Flames additions.
I think Coleman will be a great addition for what the flames need. Hyman has produced more pt/gp but he was also playing with a significantly stronger line (Matthews and manner). Coleman is 600,000 less and one less year, which I think is pretty impactful for these older UFA signings.
Zadorov was cheaper than Keith, only costing us a 3rd. Zadorov is also significantly cheaper contract wise ( 3,750,000 vs 5,538,462) and gives the flames the flexibility to move on if it doesn't work out next year.

I think Calgary got better value in terms of cap hits and has more flexibility with shorter contracts, so I would undoubtedly take the Calgary acquisitions. If all the contracts were equal, I am unsure which duo I would prefer.

I really liked the Foegele acquisition though. I wanted the flames to get him for our third line.

A lot of Flames fans also can't wait to see the new Oiler additions play. The Oilers got better in the top 6. Worse on the blueline. And is Mike Smith, who is turning 40 during the season, gonna play out of his mind again? I guess we'll see.

I think the Flames additions are smarter but I think the Oilers additions are better for what they need right now.

Oilers getting bounced in the playoffs and looking lost on the bench when the game isn't going their way - Duncan Keith is an immediate fix for that
Oilers will have to win a lot of 6-5 games this year and Hyman is the perfect piece to fly around, score a bunch and have pucks bounced off him in front of the net by McDavid

Coleman would have been a bad signing for Edmonton, I don't think the fit would be right
Zadorov could have been a wicked piece to play behind Nurse, that would have been a big blue line and replaced a lot of what Larson brought in terms of play style.

All in all I think both teams had underwhelming off seasons so far, I think Calgary got better to play in the Pacific division where I think if it was another year of the Canadian division the Oilers would be a much better team.

Keith was brought on strictly for his playoff experience and the hope that he would bounce back if given less responsibility (2nd pairing). Nothing about his stats indicate that he's worth his salary let alone giving up a pick and a young player, but Holland be Holland.

100% they bought his name reputation. But the other poster said Keith was better than Zadorov. Nothing about last year backs up that claim. And at 38 years old, its safe to assume you arent getting improved better version of him in the next 2 years.

I sitll cant believe Holland did that....he went out of his way to trade for a guy that had no value and hawks had no leverage bc of his NMC, he paid actual assets for a guy that had no trade market. Wild

I guess we will see… also, our defence did not get worse… it arguably is that same.

You gotta remember that Keith is older, and played way more minutes than Zadorov. In my opinion he is better, but it’s pretty close.

I mean, he’s likely to play just as much on Edmonton, the Oilers D is awful. And being older isn’t a good thing, he’s been declining for 5 straight years and at 38, that isn’t likely to change. At least Zadorov is well above average defensively, Keith is hanging onto being average offensively (not a need for the Oilers with Nurse, Barrie, and Bouchard, and in general being an offense only team). I think Zadorov has the distinct edge, especially considering team situation, I don’t think it’s that close, and the gap will only widen.

they played almost identical 5v5 time
Keith 991:15 mins, Zadorov 956:46 mins....we are talking 1 more minute 5v5 a night for Keith compared to Zads. So no Keith did not play way more minutes. Keith was awful bc hes awful

Keith is old and hes bad....and at his age hes going to get worse, not better. You want Keith to be better, but in fact there isnt a piece of evidence or data that says that Keith was the better dman on the hawks last year, he was flat out dreadful
