CBJ already have roster spots taken up by veterans that need to go to younger guys.

I think we’d be willing to take on Drouin, but not for a 2nd. Plus, even if it’s only three teams, I wouldn’t be surprised if CBJ are on his NTC.

For this to happen Necas would actually have to want to play in Montreal which seems unlikely given the current trajectories of the two teams. Carolina is a young and competitive team, and although Montreal made the final they'll be losing Weber, Danault, and Kotkaniemi - along with Drouin and Hoffman in your AGM, so chances are that they'd be significantly weaker. The Forsberg signing also seems like a pipedream, at that AAV other teams would beat the offer.

This wouldn't happen.
In 2022, if they plan for this scenerio (which they would probably expect it at that point), they will free up cap space to sign Necas.
Probably by trading KK RFA rights to another team and using his $6.1M cap savings to help sign Necas.
That would probably be a double insult to the Habs, getting matched on a Necas offer sheet and seeing KK traded to someone else for a couple draft picks after losing him the year before.

Whoever gets KK won't be able to trade him until August 2022, which is after the RFA qualifying date. Carolina/Montreal would need to qualify him before they can trade him, so they wouldn't be trading his rights, they would be trading him with at least 1 year term at $6.1m (unless KK agrees to a longer term deal at a different AAV).

Well at the very least, Carolina would have Trochek and Nietereiter payroll coming off books to cover the Necas offer sheet.
