I severely doubt any team would retain $21M (or so, I don’t know the actual salary)

You want them to retain 3million for SEVEN years... brutal. ARI should be building around Keller and Chychrun. I don't think you'll get him like this. And if you do, certainly won't retain that much for that long

Although they were willing to retain long term (OEL). So i think they might do it for the right price.

That is true. However OEL was closer to $7M, not $21M

It's not really a good fit for MN if they plan on keeping Fiala because of how borked their cap is over the next 4 years.

If it's a TDL dead I'm thinking it would be Kessel as the one traded between these 2 clubs. It fits MN's team needs better (a short term, RHS FWD) and it fits GMBG's MO of acquiring old PIT players. If it's a longer term contract I think Schmaltz would be the player MN targets.

Guerin and Kaprizov's agent Paul Theofanous have reportedly come to agreement at around 5 years-$9'ish Million price point, but are still hammering out the specific minutiae of year to year salary and possible trade protection stuff. So while it's close, there's a lot left to work out and he's yet to sign.

The point wasnt about which player and value, like i said for the right price. A 3m retention for 7 years is going to cost a pretty penny. My point was armstrong has shown hes willing to retain long term.

i understand it, and my point is that the right price keller plus retention isn't 2 1st and a second, non sense

Yeah agree with that. The retention alone will cost a couple of 1sts. Then you have to pay for a ~4 million clayton keller. This trade would be expensive.

These long term retention trades proposed on here are ridiculous, when has a team ever retained 41% on a player for seven years?!!

41% - frequently for year or two
7 years - only Kessel I think
41% for 7 years - never

I can't even think of too many two year deals that had that much retention, I'm sure there's some though, definitely some UFA's around the TDL have had that much retained.

Kessell was 18%, he's one of the few I can think of.

I remember those moronic Severson 50% retained to the Leafs trades that were on here.. Lol

Dubnyk was a full 50% retention when he was traded to San Jose last year. Granted, Doobs only has a single year on his contract left at that point, so....
