Yikes that is some bad value for Marner.

Edit: completely blew past me but I doubt Detroit trades their captain..

For a player as good as Marner... I'd consider it for sure.

But honestly, this doesn't really make much sense for either team. Toronto demolishes their already weak winger depth, and Detroit loses their best center. Not ideal for either side.

Dude Reinhart, Seth Jones, OEL and other mediocre players were able to get 1st round picks for them. No matter what you feel about Marner, he’s a point scoring machine. You should value him as such if you’re going to trade him.

In short, Steve Yzerman is laughing his ass off at you while accepting that trade

You know I'm actually not opposed to that Detroit trade. If I'm Yzerman I don't pay anything more than that for Marner. Let Larkin go get some playoff experience then resign him in two years, potentially. Marner would be as fantastic add for the Wings even with his cap hit. By the time his contract is up Detroit should be a competitive team so that might entice him to stick around.

Compare Larkins stats to Marners and then tell me that.

Detroit is also getting 4 years of Marner while Toronto is getting 2 years of Larkin.

Just compared Marners stats to Larkins, I'll still say that lol.
Larkin would be an elite player beside other elite players. But to pry Larkin out big Detroit would take a payment similar. Plus Toronto gets 4M in cap relief. Marner is definitely the better player all around but I wouldn't pay more than that.

I can respect that. If I were Dubas, I wouldn’t give Marner away for anything less than what Columbus got for Seth Jones because I think he’s worth more than that given how he’s performed

Totally agree with you here. But Larkin would help the team now, and I saw the other one with Bertuzzi included, now I think that's a bit of an overpayment for two guys Detroit doesn't want to trade but it is an interesting concept.

It is but either way all this is hypothetical and probably not going to happen. Like people said Detroit’s not gonna trade their captain and I doubt that Dubas is happy with that haul for Marner.

Another first round exit next year and we might be singing a different tune.

no need for Detroit to lose their 1C and caption. also I think we would be better off trading Rielly since he might not resign

And Marner plays on a stacked team with two excellent centers. On Wings he would not have that luxury. Usings stats to justify this trade is somewhat false, becuase Larkin plays with good wingers not top line players like Mathews, Tavares, Nylander and Reilly. Nothing on Wings presently compare.
