OTT declines, not trading a 1st and 2x 2nds for a rental, they are not cup contenders.

I love Dumo, but what makes you think the Wild need another defenseman? Especially for a young cost controlled goaltender who is very likely going to be one 1/2 of the goaltending tandem in Minnesota for the next ten years?

The Wild already have Spurgeon and Dumba for their top 4 needs on the right. And they already have Dumba's replacement in the system having acquired Addison from none other than the Penguins during the Zucker trade, they don't need Dumoulin.

I'm not trying to say the trade is perfect or anything, but Dumoulin plays the left side which after Brodin isn't quite as impressive as Minnesota's right side. A top 4 of Brodin-Spurgeon and Dumo-Dumba looks pretty great.

Assuming no age regression and youre tearing down? Isnt the PIT philosophy "as long as Sid/Geno as good, were going for it"?

Dumo can play the left, that's true. But Dumo has regularly played the right for the majority of his career in the NHL, especially given the fact he was paired with Pettersson for most of it.

Goligoski is only a slight step down from Suter in that top 4. And it sounds like there's a gentleman's agreement to extend him for another year or two at roughly $2M or so if it all goes well.

Besides, that left D prospect depth is pretty well stacked after the last couple of drafts. O'Rourke, Lambos, Hunt and Peart are all left D. And all have top 4 upside. Hunt and Peart specifically are flexible in that can play either side too.

Depth wise the team is set with Kulikov, Merrill, and Benn. Defensively, the team is set. They don't need Dumo.

Dumoulin plays almost exclusively the left side paired with Letang and would be an upgrade on everyone you mentioned on the left side. I'm not disagreeing that they don't need to spend the resources to bring him in as they're set on D, but he would help the team this year for sure.

I wouldn't rule out MN needing another d-man at the TDL. Injuries, bad fit, old guys just getting old, or whatever could happen. Also I don't see goalie KK being a part of any deal if MN is buyers at the TDL, they have nothing behind him to fill his spot in net.

I think Dumo is a better partner for Addison, Dumba, or Spurgeon than Goligoski or Kulikov are. I don't think PIT will be sellers at the TDL. I think they'll have a 1 last go with Letang/Malkin/Crosby corps before they move on from them next season.
