His QO is ten mil. It's not necessarily what he's going to get. He's likely to get around 5 depending on this season.

Sharks decline this. Our roster is set and down the middle with Couture , Hertl, Bonino and Weatherby there is no room for Zacha.

Why would we walk all our young studs straight to UFA?
Bridge ‘em (2-3 years) or lock ‘em down (6-8 years).

Of all the reasons to reject the trade, “we have Weatherby” was the least expected.

(Also, Meier either gets $10m for Sharks in 2023 or less elsewhere. Devils could just sign when he gets non-tendered in two years).

How do you not understand qualifying offer. This isn't cemented into his next contract. Weatherby is befitting of a 4C role. He's homegrown talent and plays with more grit than Zacha as a 4C should.

Just because Timos qo is high doesn't mean SJ will sell low on him and Zacha and a 2nd is as low as it gets sorry to say

The $10 million QO is 100% cemented into his contract. Its based off of his base salary, which is $10m next year.
Sharks will have the right to (a) negotiate a new deal, (b) offer him the QO or (c) let him walk to UFA.

Also, Zacha for Meier straight-up is not even something Devils would do.

Also the next contract qo is 10mil in base salary not necessarily in AAV so he could get 5 per year with bonuses to make it 10 mil base. It's not as simple as 10mil AAV like people on here think it is without doing actual research

Good cause Meier is far more valuable than Zacha. It's not really even close

Since their drafts, Meier has probably been better. Last year, Zacha was better.
And factoring in contracts...Zacha certainly has better value at $2.25m than Meier at $6m.

Just because the Sharks qualify him still doesn’t mean he makes that $10 mil. Meier would have to sign it. Simply qualifying a player doesn’t mean that they automatically get that amount.

Devils rather have Zacha at 2.25M rather than Meier at 6M (with 10M QO)

Zacha even outperformed Meier last year

No you were assuming that Meier would definitely get 10. Wrongly. You also don't understand the structure of the contract. It isn't 10mil AAV it's 10 base which is what his salary is next year too, 6aav and 10 base. If a team can afford that (SJs can) then why not, many players have a base salary much higher than their cap hit.

Anyway this is moot as Zacha is not a good offer for a top line winger who is still young in Timo. It's not close to enough

Here is what I said word-for-word: "The $10 million QO is 100% cemented into his contract. Its based off of his base salary, which is $10m next year.
Sharks will have the right to (a) negotiate a new deal, (b) offer him the QO or (c) let him walk to UFA."

And I fully understand how QO are calculated. In Meier's case, it will be 100% of base salary in final year.

2021-22: $6m AAV ($6 million in cash via bonus and salary)
2022-23: $6m AAV ($10 million in cash via salary)
2023-24: $10m AAV ($10 million in cash via salary) (if qualified)

And no, no other players in NHL have a salary that is $4 million above AAV.
