Aha so it will never happen in real life. Outstanding

Getting real exhausted really quick of the org's decisions. Watching preseason couldn't help but be excited, things looking up for the first time since the Buch trade, and management just had to throw us one last wrench into the optimism. The smarter decision would have also just been the easier decision, so annoying

I've seen worse offers but I still wouldn't do this.

You think there would be more to get elsewhere if hypothetically Hertl was public about not wanting to resign. Assuming he were a goner after the year and you aren't signing him.. what more do you want?

I like that. Getting a guy who can play center well or wing opens a lot of fun possibilities

You forgot Chytil. They also for sure lose Strome if they wanna re-sign Hertl. Re-signing Hertl also could be an issue, would be asking same or close to same as Zib and Fox needs 8+ mil too

There are a lot of things the value of a Hertl trade is contingent on (of which most haven't happened yet). Hertl could want out but we don't know yet. This could be a deadline deal or a deal that happens a couple weeks into the season but again, we don't know yet. He could have a fantastic season, or get injured or something lowering his value. I have no clue. So for now the assumption should be that he's more likely to re-sign here in SJ than not, he will produce similar to how he has since 2018-19 and that this deal happens very soon.

With all those things in mind I'm not a big fan of this trade. '22 first rounder is a good start, but we have a bit of a surplus at RW and we shouldn't be giving up a 3rd either. My ask has been 2022 1st + Chytil OR 2022 1st + Schneider +an extra pick/prospect and I'm still sticking to that. At the moment, I think we could get better value elsewhere, yes.

Something more along the lines of the Sharks greater needs. Center or right defense is of greater need at this point. Sharks have basically drafted all wingers recently

For me it's Brisson, Chytil, Foerster or Khusnutdinov.

Who offers more than a 9th + 25ish pick tho 😕

Idk

Maybe they get more than that with 50% retention
