Initial Creation Date: Oct. 21, 2021
Published: Oct. 21, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2023 5th round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Perreault, Mathieu
Additional Details:
Any team looking for a depth guy on expiring contract for a playoff run. Rangers have a ton of prospects after several good years of drafting so they can spare a later pick in a future year for a some extra bodies in a playoff push
2.
MTL
  1. 2023 7th round pick (VAN)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (MTL)
ARI
  1. Lehkonen, Artturi
Additional Details:
Arizona has so few players signed after this season, they get at least one NHL caliber RFA that they can lock up for a few years on a cheap contract. Lehks can give them some stability and is an excellent defensive forward with some scoring capacity. Brings excellent work ethic to a young team in the desert
3.
MTL
  1. 2023 4th round pick (LAK)
LAK
  1. Kulak, Brett
Additional Details:
Any team looking for an inexpensive, mobile, bottom-pairing d-man for playoff depth.
4.
MTL
  1. Koskinen, Mikko
  2. Russell, Kris
  3. 2022 1st round pick (EDM)
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Allen, Jake
  2. Chiarot, Ben ($1,750,000 retained)
  3. 2022 4th round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Oilers get major upgrades over two dead-weight contrats, as well as a bit of cap space, and a late pick. Allen is signed at a reasonable cost for one more season. Chiarot has not had a great start to the year but he is still a massive upgrade over Russell at this point in their careers. This is a year for Edmonton to really push for a deep playoff run, they can accumulate prospects another year but now is the time to build around McDavid.
5.
MTL
  1. Hickey, Thomas
  2. Komarov, Leo ($150,000 retained)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (NYI)

    Yeah, something like that.

Add Wideman to CAR for a 7h. I don’t want to see him anymore...

Then Let's trade for Eichel, tank for real, finish in the bottom 10 and give ARZ our worst first rounder...

We really, really need Allen for next season.

I like everything but the Arizona & Edmonton trades.

Why tank? You stand a 0% chance of getting Wright. So tanking makes absolutely 0 sense.

I would have thought so too, but an 0-5 start with 4 goals scored in those 5 games. They might turn it around but I would suggest to you that they are making a case that their chance at 1st overall is a little higher than 0 ...

Shedding ancillary assets and hoping to have a high pick would have been a more accurate team name, you are correct. It actually depends on Price coming back ... if he doesn't, or doesn't for a while, this team as constructed is very tankable

If we are taking Hickey and Komorov we are getting at least 1st + 2nd probably 2 1sts back. Not taking 2 bad contracts for a 3rd round pick

if the pick is bottom 10, they keep it and are lottery-eligible.

Kris Russell isn't a "dead weight" contract. He makes $1.25mil on a 1 year deal and is a solid veteran that can kill penalties and play both sides. He's great to have as a 6/7D that can come in and out of the lineup and absolutely want him around for playoffs for when guys get banged up.

I do like the idea of having Allen due to the extra year on his contract at a reasonable price but not ready to dump Koski yet. He had a bad 2021, no debating that, but he looked good in relief vs Anaheim and was again solid last night in Arizona. Not great opponents but before the Oilers rush to be throwing assets to dump the guy, let him play a few more games and see. He's been in Edmonton for 3 seasons and was good for 2 of them.

Might be right about Koskinen ... Chiarot is a better version of Russell, and with retention they are close to the same price. Chiarot was a bull in the playoffs last year, and can also kill penalties and play both sides. They are both on expiring contracts but Chiarot is a big upgrade at this point in their careers. That said, what asset would be worthwhile compensation for flipping them is an open question. Anyway, just a thought. Would likely only be a TDL deal, if even then ...
