I thought Toronto fans who only know Marner and don't watch other teams would trash it on the Caps side, if there weren't a 1st pick, but as bad as they're starting this season, their 2nd and two 3rds might be just as valuable. I posted a similar version on the Toronto side, with Ovchinnikov instead of picks, and an Islanders fan commented that Toronto wins it, by a lot Cool.

What a strange and unnecessary deal for Buffalo. Why do we need to trade good prospect RD for Schultz? We don't need Schultz now.

Have you seen these Mantha trades:
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2864451 Olofsson for Mantha one for one and Sabre fans hate it? I love know nothing Shibbal18's comment about getting older LOL Mantha is 10 months older than Olofsson!
Of course you saw this one https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2857386 Jack for Mantha, Brodie and 2 first!
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2852172 TBH Capitalfail67 did think it was an over payment of Mantha, McMichael and 2 firsts.

Why do the Cap fans hate Mantha so much?
I thought it was an over pay to get him, but he is certainly worth a lot more than Olofsson (I know Sabre fans will disagree).
I would do any of the trade for Jack, but I think Mantha and a first is too little for Marner, but maybe it is fair considering what Mantha offers and the difference in the cap hit.

So what do you think would be a fair Eichel trade to the Caps.
As I stated IMO your post was a bit too generous.

I think his fair value if he's healthy is a whole, whole lot, still. But I read somewhere Buffalo is sharing his medical chart with other teams so they can have their doctors evaluate. I'm just a fan. It's way above my pay grade.

But if his odds of playing like his old self are better next year or the year after than they are this year, then he might be more of a fit for a rebuilding team than for an all-in team built around aging stars in now-or-never mode.

Mantha? He's okay, but he's no Vrana. I'm not sure if he's worse than Eichel, though. smile

Interesting idea to trade him to a rebuilding team.
I guess that would be the Buffalo Sabres. laugh
It is sad that in just over a year they went from signing Taylor Hall to total rebuild.
Now with their 5 best players from the start of 2020 gone (Hall, Ristolainen, Reinhart, Ullmark and Eichel), they are off to a 4-1-1 start, last year they started 2-4.
This team has scored 5 goals three times, it took 38 games to do that last year.
The teams of their next four games have a combined record of 9-14-3.

Backstrom isn't out long term, and I don't know where you would realistically get rid of $10 million from this team when he inevitably comes back.

Too many people have an emotional connection to Vrana without realizing Mantha is nearly the same in value. Despite him struggling through the end of his tenure in DC, people were too emotionally attached and now we have to deal with fans complaining that Vrana is gone every 5 seconds. Seems similar to the fanbase's reaction after they traded Burakovsky. (Something about those clean shaven european players really gets fans going...)
