I like this trade for Buffalo, but as is the nature of an Eichel trade it can still come back to bite them. Good offer for both sides IMO.

Why would the cap be tighter next year? You have $9 million of Goligoski and Rask coming off the books.

Buffalo would’ve been targeting younger players IMO. Dumba + Boldy + 1st is what it would’ve taken

I get the sense that MIN was pretty dang close this summer. In listening to Eichel during that Friedman interview and mentioning how he thought MIN was it at one point, it feels like it was even closer than we were lead to believe.

Doesn’t matter now, obviously. I think we’re better for it.

Guessing Fiala would have been in the deal instead of Dumba. Guerin seems reluctant to sign him long-term and since Buffalo took Tuch they'd be open to a forward.

Sure but Fiala + Boldy/Rossi + 1st sounds like too much value from Minny

Dumba looks more likely to be part of the Wild's future than Fiala does. Fiala might be viewed as a better player than Tuch, but Fiala likely won't be signed to the length Tuch is signed for as cheaply which makes acquiring either player harder to compare value. Argument could easily be made Tuch is worth more because of the cost certainty. Rossi, Boldy, and Krebs are all blue chip prospects who may end never being NHLers so unless a GM wants to argue about the draft currency used to draft them, it's basically a wash.

Beyond Addison, they really don't have any RHD in the system. That may not matter if they extend Dumba. Centers and right shot forwards seem to be what the Wild have lacked for a long time.

I don't think I've ever seen an everyday d-corps that runs 1 RHS and 5 LHS players.

This team would miss the Playoffs this year, and probably the entire time Eichel was here.
