Takeaways From Tonights Game

Created by: Agent_Of_R9
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 12, 2021
Published: Nov. 13, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Great performance from the team buds once again. Nylander, Tavares and Marner were buzzing, Matthews is still working his way back to his usual dominant level but he’ll get there.

Holl had an excellent game, though I would still try to upgrade over him because he’s shown that after a lot of games, he gets overwhelmed by his role.

The Leafs are never going to be a physical or aggressive team as long as this core stays together, but they play with good structure and can limit the opposition's scoring chances. Tonight they played against a really heavy and elite team, yet they weren’t intimidated at all. These are the games that really give you a glimpse of the team’s ability.

Calgary is far from elite, they are good when they play structured Sutter hockey. They really didn't tonight and Vladar bailed them out

I was so close to commenting about yet another Strome / Holl swap but that Chychrun trade is top-tier garbage tears of joy

IDK, maybe the Leafs made it difficult for Calgary to play their defensive game?

I’m not sure what Chychrun would cost given the way that he’s playing but I’d be happy to change it to a 1st. Niemela is an elite prospect so that should be a dealbreaker for most teams anyway.

Buddy. I see you post a lot of trades on this site that people scoff at. And I think the real reason is because you keep talking about how players are playing right now and not potential or career play.

I guess you’re right. But we also shouldn’t ignore the fact that current struggling play will more or less detriment their value.

100%. But in this case, 14 of Chychrun's 304 games should not decrease his trade value that significantly. He is a legit 1D that can do just about everything. Unfortunately, the team around him is getting worse and worse.

Leafs have no reason to make any trades right now. They are proving that having depth is the most important asset. Not sure why Strome would help. Regardless of trade value.

And to echo other comments. That Chych trade must be a joke.

Probably, Toronto definitely dictated the pace and style of the game. Shot count can show that

Not anywhere close on that Chycrun trade, would need to add significantly.

That’s fair. I still don’t think Chychrun would be able to fetch one of our top forwards like Matthews, Nylander or Marner but I definitely think a guy like Sandin being the main piece in the package is reasonable.

I think Strome would add some depth scoring over the ghost Ritchie. From 2018-20, he had 2.5 P/60. Last season in 126 minutes alongside Hagel & Kurashev he scored 4.76.

Agree, I was surprised that we were able to play like that cuz CGY’s forwards are really fast and physical. I guess that speaks volumes about our defencemen being decent.

Chicago declines, Holl is not needed in Chicago. You make a lot of AGMs without much thought about the team you are trying to trade with

Matthews is the only one of the Leafs big four that Arizona would really want but Toronto can't really trade him unless they're retooling which they aren't, something around Sandin, a 1st+ is probably a good base for Chycrun though I'm guessing.

It was a back to back for the Flames though. Team really to pick it up. Been a rough November for Calgary so far

I forgot Calgary was on a back to back. I guess the Leafs to play a rested elite team to be really tested then.
