Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Description

Let's say Arizona files for bankruptcy and there's an "expansion draft" in which all teams can pick assets from the team based on their average regular-season standings # over the last two seasons.

1. Seattle is granted the #1 pick
2. All drafts picks are forfeited
3. Some sort of cap cushion is put in place for the team going over the salary cap with their pick. - the said player doesn't count against the cap as long as he is part of the team he was picked by and is still signed to the same contract.

I am irrationally upset about the Jets snaking Josh Doan right before NSH's pick, in this made up, nonexistent, alternate universe scenario.

This is a really cool idea! Always love your ideas for posts lol, you seem to put a lot more thought into interesting hypothetical scenarios or analysis of situations than a lot of people on this site and I just want to say I appreciate the effort, always a great read.

With that said, I think Ottawa should do everything in their power to trade up and get Guenther lol. There's actually a chance he slips too, I could see Buffalo being interested in Soderstrom (as a partner for Power, Dahlin-Jokihharju / Power-Soderstrom is insane, and they already have Quinn/Tuch/Peterka for RWers) or NJ being interested in Soderstrom too (right now their best D prospects are all lefties, and while Hamilton is around forever, Severson might not be a long term guy so Soderstrom would fit nicely with Luke Hughes or Ty Smith). Regardless, if we don't get Guenther and Keller is the other top 3 pick, I think Ottawa snags Soderstrom just because he's higher end than any of our current RD prospects, and looks significantly better than Hayton right now. Chabot-Zub / Sanderson-Soderstrom is nuts. And it would also make JBD or Thomson expendable as trade bait for Boeser or something.
