Edmonton adds to deal above. Colorado adds to one-for-one.

I think if you subtract Newhook, 1st, 3rd, MacKinnon, and McDavid then its fair

Not while MacKinnon is on his current contract no way no how. COL doesn’t do a MacKinnon for McDavid straight up period.

lets not go overboard. 100% trade mackinnon for mcdavid straight up. a year and a half of cheap mackinnon isn't worth mcdavid.

I would agree with that if they had a lot of cap space. But soon he will want that amount and Byram, Newhook, and Kadri will need to be paid and both of their goalies are expiring. I think even though Mcdavid is better they will stick with Macs deal because they can work around it easier at the moment.

Yeah and how about playoff production? MacK 1.38ppg, McDavid 1.05ppg and you get $6.2M in cap space for the regular season. It’s not even close on his current contract.

swap teams and i bet that difference goes away. maybe even reversed. don't forget the age difference too. mcdavid is on a level of his own.

yea mcdavid doesn't have the supporting cast that mackinnon had in colorado. i thought that was pretty obvious.

Oh so now you MacKinnon and the money for a supporting staff that’s the difference? MacKinnon has 40pts in his last 25 playoff games, McDavid 22pts in 21 games with the likes of Draisitl, RNH, Nurse, Barrie. But yeah give me that and an addition $6.3M cap hit. Not even close. MacKinnon on his current contract all day and twice in the playoffs.

has nothing to do with money. has everything to do with the supporting pieces. mainly drafting and trades. avs did good in both edm didnt. even with accouting for less cap space the avs have a much better supporting cast than mcdavid has ever had. mcdavid is clearly the best player in the world and he's in a tier of his own. he's easily eclipsed macks point totals playing 2 less seasons. i love mack but i'm not blind.

?

I don't think you read my full comment - I said to subtract everyone from the deal, as in COL isn't interested

So then explain the playoff discrepancies? Not arguing MacDavid isn’t a better regular season player but contracts and playoff performance matter. Period. I’m 2 of the last 4 playoffs the Avs were the 8th seed so forgive me if I’m not buying into the all it’s the supporting cast. Doesn’t change the fact on his current contract MacKinnon is by far the best choice and it isn’t close.

pretty small sample size. i don't put much weight into that. oilers have been dysfunctional for a decade. mcdavid is younger, better and more consistent. passing on him because of a year and a half of a cheaper contract is penny wise pound foolish. its shortsighted

Pretty small sample size? What because McDavid can’t get his team out of the 1st round? 3 seasons playoffs aren’t enough? Bro move the goal line much, if he’s that much better than MacKinnon he would have found a way on pure talent to get them past the 1st rd especially last year. And this all goes back to you thinking MacKinnon AND Newhook, AND a 1st is fair exchange. Glad you’re not Sakic.

your conflating a teams success with a players success. it's a team game one player cant win it all. yea the best player in the world is going to cost a lot imagine that.
