ok and Boeser is not better than Barzal so this makes the islanders worse.

The islanders aren't trading Barzal but the only player they'd have interest in Pettersson.

Yeah, New York immediately declines. Barzy is their 1C, and they already have Wahlstrom emerging. Yes, the Islanders are having a rough season, but that can be mostly blamed on the aging roster. A slight re-tool is what they need, as some of their vets (Lee and Cizikas for example) are very much useful for the team.

The point of getting Boeser would be to play with Barzal, so this doesn't make sense.
