keep naz or not

Description
Kadri has been amazing this season. The previous season he got that 8 game suspension in the playoffs and was just there during the regular season. Not great production and wasn't the great 2C that he was in the bubble. The Avs got to remember that Nate is a UFA the following year. Byram is an 2023 RFA and could get some money depending on how well he plays. Compher is an 2023 UFA. They also need goaltenders as Kuemper and Francouz are 2022 UFAs. Jost and Newhook are 2023 RFAs. Burakovsky and Val are also 2022 UFAs. Do I think Kuemper stays. I think it depends on how the Avs to on the playoffs. If they go far then sure why not. But if they get eliminated in the second round again then idk.

Let him walk. He's 32 soon and likely cashing in big after a career year. Keep in mind that Sakic let Saad walk even at a reasonable $4.5m AAV and Saad was a few years younger in UFA than Kadri will be.

Ideally Sakic can acquire Miller with retention to cover the 2C spot next year (and for this year's playoff run). Miller's caphit would allow both Nichuskin and Burakovsky to be resigned, both of whom are 26 years old and thus fitting the age profile of the team better.

Somebody is going to give Kadri that contract. Won’t be the Avs. Newhook is playing 3C now and doing extremely well, and short of a horrendous playoff run I expect the Avs to run him at 2C next season. Nichushkin I would be shocked if he weren’t back, Burakovsky if he wants the max money might be elsewhere. Pretty spot on with Kuemper analysis.

only if its at the right amount. 4x6.5..anything more you let him walk. Avs cant have that type of contract on the books of 7m+ at his age.

Naz is playing out of his mind right now; we Avs fans hope it continue for the rest of the season and into the playoffs. But it's a massive aberration from his career numbers (just like last year was) so it is more likely he returns to being a 60 point player which means he will be very much overpaid if someone hands him a contract based off this season. Combine that with his age and that's a recipe for instant regret. Better to spend the money on Nuke and maybe Bura.

Exactly this. I like NAZ, but age is a big factor and with possibly the most important extension in Avs history on the horizon, not likely the Avs keep him around. Also, if we win the cup this year, he absolutely chases the money to a team in more of a rebuild phase.
