Even though they're rivals that's probably too much for the Rangers I think. As nice as it would be. I don't think Seattle goes for that to be honest, they have the room but Hayes would have to waive too plus I think for better or worse they're on Ron Francis' wild ride. Probably a slightly lesser return for JVR but not a bad destination, same with Braun and Brass I think.
The thing for me is, this team is basically the same as this year plus York. Can Ellis stay healthy? Can Coots? Are we just replacing the Hayes contract with the Trocheck one? Part of the reason the Flyers are sucky rn are the contracts given out to good, not great, players so we stay in the hunt. We need the next G in our system.
Yes, admittedly moving Hayes is for someone similar age/cap hit/term and probably similar production as a 2C, but with more speed than Hayes. Agree with all those sentiments, but I just cant see a tear down working.
Even without moving Hayes, its been a perfect storm of injuries at key positions. A healthy lineup, with youngsters like Foerster, a kaapo/kravtsov, allison, york, lauzon and a boatload of future picks is closer to what I think will happen.
Theres Possibilities that Koneckny is moved or a Sanheim (both mid 20s and certainly worth keeping in a rebuild) are more likely than Coots or Ellis. The guys who’ve been injured, are the older ones who have little trade value unless they rebound.
IMO, the flyers do not lack talent, but are a discombulated pile of mess, with key figures missing throughout the lineup and others playing out of position or in a system that doesn’t fit them or aren’t getting the time because vets like brassard, braun, Thompson were getting the better minutes.
They have key youth throughout the lineup, but exist and succeed as a team, and can’t do that with half of the key players injured. A rebuild isn’t as simple as just dropping older guys, it requires dropping them if you have a replacement, and as yet we don’t. Bringing in 5-6 young guys spread throughout lineup, clearing out old guys like braun, brassard, jones and Yandle, and continued smart drafting and developing will have the talent turnover but not in a single year.
The lineup above has 9 of 14 forwards 27 or younger, with only 2 over 30 yrs old, and only ellis is over 28 yrs old amongst the defense and goalie
