Description
There’s three definites on defense next year IMO: Provorov, Ellis, Cam York.

I don’t believe Risto will be moved, based on his initial cost and to be fair hes been good in what the team needed him to be, prior to injuries: solid defensively, hitter and add a bit offensively. I think he’ll be re-signed around what hes at now, for 4 years or more. And pair as a solid veteran for a youngster like Cam York, he and a healthy ellis, could form a solid top 4. BUT, if the team feels it could move Sanheim (4.6 for 1 more year) or Koneckny (5mil for 4 more years), they could address either LD or RD in trade. For example some kind of Koneckny to COL for Girard (based on Byram injury) or Koneckny to CAR for DeAngelo or rely on York to be 2LD and acquire a cheap but solid 3LD in UFA or trade.

Ultimately, theres a lot of options from expensive 3rd pair but reliable 3rd pair role vet RD in Savard or Zaitsev or even Phillipe Myers to cheap veteran UFA bangers in Gudbranson, Zadorov, Benning or Bortuozzo to fit in with what they have and re-signing Risto. Or do they move Sanheim, a 2LD and elevate Cam York to 2LD?

Or you roll with what you have in Provorov-Ellis, Sanheim-Risto, York-? (cheap physical 3RD UFA like gudbranson/Zadorov/Bortouzzo/Benning) I am working on that premise, but theres many options available.

Hayes, when healthy, is a nice 2nd line center with 45-60pt and is a good distributor. Does anyone want his 7mil cap hit? I dont know but Lauzon is a small, small price. Does a Hayes and Sanheim for Soucy, Lauzon and a bit more work?

Does NYR really want Giroux, enough to part with either Kaapo or Kravtsov in the proposal, (they're struggling to develop lafreniere, kaapo, etc...) for illustration purposes I've selected Kaapo.

As far as Trocheck at 2C, this could be Kadri.

All guys added (except bringing back Giroux) are 26 yrs old or younger and they have stockpiled picks over next few years. Kaapo (or Kravtsov), Allison, Ratcliffe, Foerster, Frost are all young

That's an easy Ranger decline. Rangers dont necessarily need retention and they aren't giving up two high picks and Kakko for rental.

Those 2 picks are enough to get G on their own. 0 need to move Kakko

Oilers aren't taking on Yandle and Jones ever. Duncan Keith is better than all of them combined

Even though they're rivals that's probably too much for the Rangers I think. As nice as it would be. I don't think Seattle goes for that to be honest, they have the room but Hayes would have to waive too plus I think for better or worse they're on Ron Francis' wild ride. Probably a slightly lesser return for JVR but not a bad destination, same with Braun and Brass I think.

The thing for me is, this team is basically the same as this year plus York. Can Ellis stay healthy? Can Coots? Are we just replacing the Hayes contract with the Trocheck one? Part of the reason the Flyers are sucky rn are the contracts given out to good, not great, players so we stay in the hunt. We need the next G in our system.

I don't see any room for Yandle either. Braun maybe?

Jones isn't an upgrade on Koskinen so there's no reason to make that move.

Ottawa keep their picks instead of JVR. Hayes isn't wanted with his 7.1m never ending cap. Imagine Rangers say no, and Edmonton does too.

Yes, admittedly moving Hayes is for someone similar age/cap hit/term and probably similar production as a 2C, but with more speed than Hayes. Agree with all those sentiments, but I just cant see a tear down working.

Even without moving Hayes, its been a perfect storm of injuries at key positions. A healthy lineup, with youngsters like Foerster, a kaapo/kravtsov, allison, york, lauzon and a boatload of future picks is closer to what I think will happen.

Theres Possibilities that Koneckny is moved or a Sanheim (both mid 20s and certainly worth keeping in a rebuild) are more likely than Coots or Ellis. The guys who’ve been injured, are the older ones who have little trade value unless they rebound.

IMO, the flyers do not lack talent, but are a discombulated pile of mess, with key figures missing throughout the lineup and others playing out of position or in a system that doesn’t fit them or aren’t getting the time because vets like brassard, braun, Thompson were getting the better minutes.

They have key youth throughout the lineup, but exist and succeed as a team, and can’t do that with half of the key players injured. A rebuild isn’t as simple as just dropping older guys, it requires dropping them if you have a replacement, and as yet we don’t. Bringing in 5-6 young guys spread throughout lineup, clearing out old guys like braun, brassard, jones and Yandle, and continued smart drafting and developing will have the talent turnover but not in a single year.

The lineup above has 9 of 14 forwards 27 or younger, with only 2 over 30 yrs old, and only ellis is over 28 yrs old amongst the defense and goalie

        OTT declines.

Also, hasnt the PHI management outright said that Hayes is a part of the long term plan?
