Trading Dach would be a really bad idea even though he has had a down year

Yes, Dach should be traded to Colorado in the off season. I think the Avs could put together a nice package for him.

Important to remember Kirby Dach didn’t pick himself third overall. Looking like he could become a third-line, checking, shutdown role which is still a valuable role. In the month of JAN he has allowed the fourth-fewest opponent scoring chances per minute among Hawks forwards. I don't believe he will ever become a top scoring #1C but can be an effective player. Trading him now will only net another struggling prospect.

Let's face the facts... we have seen enough out of Dach to draw a few conclusions about the type of player he is going to be in this league and that is not a point scorer. To be honest I'm not sold on his upside as a third-line center in a shutdown role either because of his abysmal faceoff ability. It's obvious that Dach is a BUST in the context of a third overall pick. However, he is still a useful player and could theoretically be a useful piece on a championship team assuming this team gets to that level eventually.

Holland has already said he won't trade a 1st for a rental. MAF is only saving 1% more of the shots he faces than Koskinen is, that's not worth a 1st anyhow.

There is still plenty of time for him to develop (see Ryan Hartman). And in the interim he will be a great fit in the bottom 6 and can float up and down the lineup. He should definitely be moved to wing with his abysmal FO%. I just hope that in realizing this, him and his agent don't try to command a pay day more than $2mil, MAYBE $2.5mil. If any trade happens I think he should be used as a piece for a top pairing LD. And if it's COL, I guess Girard would be the guy cuz I don't see them moving on from Devon Toews.

Yeah in a draft where we could have had Zegras, Byram, Knight, Caufield, Newhook, Boldy, or Turcotte, Dach is 100% a bust unless next year is insane. Zegras is the best player out of the 2019 draft class and he was picked 6 spots later. Oof

Kirby's still young. He's had flashes and will most likely be a high end 2C. People forget this is his first "normal" season. Calling him a bust is a joke, you don't expect a 3rd overall pick in a draft that was up in the air from 3-12 overall to be a HOF. Maybe some of the players drafted after him will be better but that happens every year. Zegras is the only one you can definitively say is going to be better than Dach. I will be looking to resign Kirby longterm in the offseason
