TOP 50 Dmen today and TOP 50 in Future

Created by: AFox23

Description
I ranked the top 50 defensemen right now (age 23 and up). And the top 50 that are under 23 years old today. Some of the under 23 names would have appeared on top-50 overall list, but I didn't want players both lists.

How did I do? Agree or disagree?

Letang goes right after Josi. I cant believe you put him in honorable mentions when hes been a top 10 defenseman every year. Top 5 this year

Where the hell is Heiskanen on the now list? He's definitely top 10, and borderline top 5.

Edit: Whoa and you don;t have Quinn Hughes on the now list at all, either. Ehh?

On the now list...

Too high: Deangelo (waaaay too high), Jones, Trouba, Lundgren (surprise surprise at those two), Severson, Morrissey, Giordano, Burns, OEL.

Way too low: McAvoy, Letang, Fowler, Brodin, Dumba.

And Faulk is better than almost half the players listed. He's not the guy you remember from Carolina anymore.

Things are looking up for the bruins back end in the future. McAvoy and Carlo are already great players, Lohrei looking like a stud prospect. Vaakanainen and Zboril (pre injury) have been awesome in the NHL this year. The bruins don’t have much in terms of future offensively, but at goaltending and defense is pretty well planned out looking forward

I thought Vaakainen has taken a step back? I used to be very high on him and had him top-15 or so d-men prospects.

Whatever people's complaints about DeAngelo are...his performance on the ice justifies this ranking. He is a possible Norris contender. Trouba may be a bit higher that he should be, but Ryan Lindgren may be too low. He is probably the most underrated d-man in league.

Faulk is a negative player defensively this year. And doesn't provide enough offense to make up for it. Dumba has also seen a drop-off, specifically in his offensive game. He has been close to NHL average d-man this year. So he still sneaks into top-50 based on reputation, but maybe last time.

Both are on the right side because they are under 23

Heiskanen is ranked 1st
Quinn Hughes is ranked 19th (way too low)

Letang goes right after Josi. I cant believe you put him in honorable mentions when hes been a top 10 defenseman every year. Top 5 this year

There is not much left defensively and I view him now as an elite Power Play specialist, but probably 2nd pair guy elsewhere. Even the Pens announcers were talking about it in the last time I watched Pittsburgh broadcast.

Where the hell is Heiskanen on the now list? He's definitely top 10, and borderline top 5.

Edit: Whoa and you don;t have Quinn Hughes on the now list at all, either. Ehh?

I separated the players under 23 onto their own list and Miro and Quinn are both listed. It would have been too confusing to have them on two lists.

Both are on the right side because they are under 23

Heiskanen is ranked 1st
Quinn Hughes is ranked 19th (way too low)

Devils Fan, don't worry, I have Luke much higher. And Riley Walsh very high too with the progress he has made in AHL.

You’ve got mcavoy about 14 spots too low (minimum). Jones, Deangelo, Petro, Pulock, Carlson, Chychrun above him is an absolute abomination.
Lindgren way way way too high (not on any top 100 list)

I thought Vaakainen has taken a step back? I used to be very high on him and had him top-15 or so d-men prospects.

Been playing 20+ a night on the top pair. Did just get hit from behind by yanni gourde though, and looks to have a concussion.

Hmm. Don't see why (now means now), but okay.

1- Oi vey... he's just bad defensively. So bad.

2- Surely, you must realize that Rangers (and ex-Rags apparently) seem to do exceedingly well on your lists.

3- Hahahaha WHAT??? He leads the league in defensive point shares. Among D-men with at least 400 minutes players this season, he's fifth in even strength GA/60. He hits, he makes blocks, he transitions out of the back.

4- Oh dear. I mean, it's beyond clear you don't watch Western Conference teams, but sheesh. Meanwhile, apparently Trouba is really a legit #1 D-man...

Anyway, thanks for the fun list. It's certainly a conversation piece.

And you would’ve been correct, up until this season. He’s been very good for us since the call up and has earned himself a role in the top six.

He's definitely still great and absolutely a top pair dman but top 5 is pretty aggressive.

Off the top of my head, Makar, Fox, Josi, Hedman, Ekblad, McAvoy, Slavin, Toews, Heiskanen are all better then him I’m sure there’s a few I’m missing. He’s just not good enough defensively to make an argument for top 5.

He's been bad defensively both by the eye test and analytically this year.

You should have just said over 23_and under 23 and saved yourself the trouble. Mcavoy is way better though.
