Oilers TDL

Created by: Gregzky
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 10, 2022
Published: Feb. 10, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
CLB sends Mikko to the minors and saves 1.5 mil in actual salary (pro rated) as Domi makes 6 mil in actual saleray. They get a 2nd and 4th for Domi.

The Islanders will need to take money back to move Varlamov and get 2 useful but over paid players. They also move up from a very late 2nd to a (likely) mid 1st and get a prospect ready for pro in return.

Buffalo moves a pending UFA for a 2nd, while getting a veteran to fill space for the rest of the year.

In a separate deal the Buffalo swaps a pending UFA for help with their PP for 2 years.

Seattle swaps a LD that will be a UFA after next year for a young LD that is nearly NHL ready that could be a better version of him in 2-3 years.

Would rather just get futures for Miller. Barrie isn’t an upgrade over Dahlin, and probably Power for the PP

The point of trading Varly would be to save cap, not take on more cap. The trade is Varly for Koskinen and a 1st or Lou doesn’t even bother asking Varly to waive his NTC.

Upgrade the prospect, swap Koskinen for Smith (honestly I think OP's Max Domi deal still works with Smith swapped in), and then NYI might think about absorbing Kassian's hit for two more years. I could easily see Lou looking at Kassian as a Clutterbuck replacement next year (which is why I hope Ken Holland doesn't dangle him in front of Lou.)

With Johnston, Bellows, and Koivula the Isles have 4th line options (though I get your point about Lou as he loves his grinders). Also would rather trade Clutter this year for a pick and resign him in the Summer to a Martin contract.

That is not a bad option either, Kassian is good at times but doesn't bring the aggressiveness he needs to every night, when he does he's worth every penny.

I'm with you 100%, I'd rather see Cal back on a 2x1.5-2 deal. I know the fourth line hasn't looked their usual selves this year but Cal seems to be playing the strongest game of those 3. In a perfect world, next year you're rotating Johnston/Martin on the LW, Cizikas at C, and Cal on the RW with Koivula stepping in occasionally where needed.

Jackets aren’t taking this trade with koskinen. About a first rounder off, 2nd at a minimum. Swap smith and the price goes up

if the isles are taking on smith and kassian the second they’re giving up needs to come out and they need to either receive a better prospect (i’m talking borgualt level here) or another high pick.

Honestly, I don't know what OP is thinking putting a goalie in that CBJ trade anyways. I know that the Merzlikins/Korpisalo tandem hasn't been great but adding Koskinen or Smith adds a 3rd mediocre goalie to a team that doesn't need it. On the Islanders end, they'd rather take back the UFA Koskinen than Smith with another year left; Oilers probably have to plug in an actual skater to that Domi deal to get any traction.

Isles would want the value of koskinen and a 1st for varly. Koskinen doesnt really impact the isles at all bc his contract expires after this year. Smith on the other hand the isles have less than 0 interest in bc his contract runs thriuhh next season. Now brind'amour is not nearly worth what it would cost to take smith and kassian and get a 2nd in return. For me in order for this trade to work i would need brind'amour to be upgraded to another 1st rounder or an equivelant.
