Buffalo is not trading UPL at this stage and it wouldn't be for Kaut.

What the Hell, why do people even take the time to type these trades, here's who you can have for Martin Kaut = Patrick Polino, a guys who's worthless for an NHL team for a guy who's worthless for an NHL team.

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.

The reason I made this AGM (and other recent ones) is because I'm trying to familiarize myself a bit more with other teams rosters and prospect pools ahead of the deadline.

I'm not an expert on Buffalo prospects so forgive me if my proposal isn't to your liking.

Please feel free to indicate which prospects might be available, if for no other reason other than reclamation projects in a prospect-swap sort of deal.

Thanks in advance.

What would the price of each of your young goalies be, hypothetically speaking?

But we haven't even seen Levi and Portillo in action yet. UPL looked solid in the NHL this season until he got injured. I think Buffalo has no desire to trade Levi or UPL, maybe in theory Portillo could be available for a decent RD prospect, not sure.

Agreed. Portillo probably the guy (levi is off limits i suspect), he may be better than upl, but he's farther away. Look at the roster and the guys we have coming- I want a high end center, which a goalie prospect absolutely doesn't get you, and we need right d, preferably a guy who knows where his own end is, and a little size wouldn't hurt. So nothing anybody would give us for a goalie prospect. Also, dell has been pretty bad, I would be extremely uneasy if he was starting 2 playoff games.

Thanks for your feedback!

Appreciate that goalie prospects aren't the easiest to trade, probably why we don't see many such trades until they're a bit older.

How has Pysyk done with you guys this year? Do you think he'd be a solid deadline pickup for a contender like Colorado, or how would you evaluate/rate him?

That's the problem, goalies are a lottery and we don't know how they will play in the NHL.

Pysyk is was solid, he plays in the top 4 for us and looks good, I think he would be a solid #5 - #6 in the contender. Probably Buffalo will try to re-sign him and trade Miller. Idk maybe they will trade Pysyk as well, and in the summer they will sign him again, but I'm not sure that they will trade him at TDL.

What would you say the values on the deadline market will be for Pysyk and Miller, respectively?

Pysyk has been ok. What you'd expect, low event, gotta look for him. I would absolutely take him as an insurance policy, the Sabres had a real shot at getting to a cup 15 years ago, but they were down to their 9th and 10th defenseman. Much rather have pysyk than Jeff jillson.

I would expect 2nd for Miller with 50% retain,

It's hard for me to put a value on Pysyk, he looked better than Miller on defense and he can play on PK, also his contract better, but I hope if we trade Pysyk we will get no less than for Miller, it would be logical given his game this season.

Miller retained for a 2nd. Apparently the ask is a first, which, I think is crazy. Pysyk probably a 4th or 5th.

Don’t think we’d trade ANY of them right now
None are a “sure thing”
But all with potential to be a franchise goalie for us
UPL will get 1st shot at being our “goalie of the future”

IF he doesn’t work out….
THEN Levi/Portillo will get their chances
But they’re both YEARS away
Maybe we’d trade one of them, but IMO it would have to be for a YOUNG right shot defenseman who projects to be a LOCK for top4 minutes
We’d want a significant young player back IMO
Likely one that another team would not want to part with

Other than that,
i think we’d keep them & see which ones work out
Having too many good goalies would be a good problem to have

But as of right now….
I don’t see ANY way we’re likely to trade UPL
*or Levi *or Portillo

In the Sabres case,
we aren’t looking to trade our good young talent
We are rebuilding
So if anything, we’d be looking to acquire more

Btw….
U can always read up on a team’s prospects so u don’t get trashed here

The PLAN to get a 1st for Miller INCLUDES taking back a “Cap dump” as well
Idk that it’ll happen, but that’s the thinking

At the present time I don't think there is a price for any of them...UPL will be back up with the Sabres by seasons end and will be expected to carry the load next season. With the season Levi is having I don't think he has a price...he'll be in the AHL next season and maybe part of the following season. Same can be said of Portillo. These 3 will fight it out and until there is a clear cut winner I don't see any one of them being shipped out.

Doubt any team is trading a cap dump with a 1st for Miller. If I'm a GM I'd just pay a 2nd/3rd for Miller and trade the capdump separately if I have to.

Pysyk played for the Panthers for 4 years.
He had a career year in his last year with 9 goals and 18 points.
The Panthers liked his defense so much they moved him to RW.
He then signed with the Stars for a staggering $750,000 who gave up on him which allowed Buffalo to sign him for $900,000.
In Buffalo he appears to be decent RHD.
As a unit, Buffalo has one of the worse collection of defensemen in the NHL.
Only six teams have given up more goals and only one team has more shots against.
I sincerely hope Buffalo could get a 2nd for Miller and after the first 18 games that appeared to be a minimum return as he had 11 points.
Now with one point in his last 14, who knows what sort of return he will receive as he was playing with an injury (as has Olofsson).
Today, Karmanos would most likely be satisfied with a 3rd for Miller and 4th for Pysyk.

BTW, I was shocked that you made this post.
I have read your comments and rarely found them lacking in substance or accuracy.
But that trade for Luukkonen? Wow as you could see others thought it was totally unreasonable.
IMO it would take a return as MTL received for Taffoli to pry Luukkonen out of the system, and I am sure there would be Sabre ACGM's who would complain.

Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it.

I figure Pysyk will be near the bottom of the list of deadline targets for teams needing defensive depth, perhaps only as a 6/7 type to guard against injury if the price is cheap.

As I said above I really don't know how to value Buffalo's goalies. The trade proposal above was more exploratory than anything, just to spark a conversation and see how Buffalo fans rate their goalies. And thanks to a few posters on here I've got my answer on that smile
