Description
Who gets moved this off-season? With Johnny, Matthew, Andrew and Nakita all due contracts and raises there’s not going to be enough room for everyone. Calgary is making the push for the cup, So I don’t think any major moves happen before the TDL. I’m guessing Monahan is odd man out and should create enough room to resign all these guys no problem (would be about 33m in cap space) but not enough to fill out the rest of the roster, unless someone else moves also, (speculating cap hits, JG-8M, MT-9.5, AM-6, NZ-4.5 = 28m) these maybe way off, tried to keep it reasonable but anyways that’s only 5m for 3C and fill out 4th line and a dman or two- so even if it was all 900K hits, young or cheap players it’s still going to be very close

Do they make a move before TDL make some cap space, replace trades player with budget option UFA and grab a dman depth also for deep playoff run?

So what’s everyone’s opinion on the move here? Is it Monahan? He’s got term so nothing has to be done till offseason, so that’s a plus but his value is probably going to be higher this year at TDL. So do you trade him off now for little better return but risk disturbing production for a round higher pick or slight upgraded prospects (compared to what you’ll get in the off-season)

Just curious to see everyone’s option here, I mean do they really let Johnny walk in FA for nothing? That would be ridiculously stupid, no way they trade away TK or Mags right? Nakita is replaceable for sure but at 26 you know what your getting and has many years left?

Obviously this is all based on next seasons contract extensions cost

Also throw out some expected returns on your ideas! Like if it’s Monahan at the TDL what’s the return or in the off-season what’s the return. Or whoever you think should/ could be moved

Zadorov isn't getting an extension. Not with Calgary's LD depth.

One of Lucic or Monahan will be moved

Tkachuk likely gets 9M max, probably the same as Gaudreau though

Monahan doesnt really seem like a Boston kinda player to me and idk the wild may struggle to fit him in the cap. A couple other options just looking at current roster needs would probably be Ottawa or Columbus. Also with Philly losing Giroux maybe they would need more help down the middle although We dont want that cuz then gaudreau will for sure want to go down there to be with his friend.

Money to the Wild just doesn't work with their cap.

Besides money, been reported for Years our gm Guerin doesn't want Sean Monahan, and has never had any interest in him

If you wanted to be realistic, here are some ideas:
1) Change the year to 2022-23 so the free agents show properly, this starts out faulty so I-should stop now. All the guys show on current contract…..But let’s pretend this is a starting point.
2) Zad is gone and Kylington gets $2.7 to $3M per year
3) Bottom forward re-sign for less like minimum $750K
4) MAngi gets $4.7 to $5M again you start wrong due to #1
5) Again look at next year and Minnesota cannot fit Monahan due to massive buyout cap hits on the two old vets

1) did this as monahan gone at TDL to show available money to replace him, with cheaper UFA, and plausible depth d for playoff run. Not as next season, which is probably when Sean gets moved I agree. Soo wrong, not quiet, different then 22 off-season yes for sure

2) didn’t say Nikita was re signing, simply said he’s getting a raise, CGY or someone else pays it is debatable for sure

3) bottom forwards are 750k-1.2m usually, so I split the difference(ish) at 900k to keep it simple

4) wrong? Guess so, 6 is little high, which I referenced right after I stated cap hit in details may be off but is rough idea, I think 4.7 is low for mags, 5-5.5 is probably about right all depending on term

5) and again “MIN is placeholder” just picked a team that has been rumored to be looking for center, not getting into how MIN can fit his cap or if he fits their system as this is discussion on CGY not MIN or even a discussion specific to Sean particularly

I would say Lucic and a later pick to AZ for future considerations pre draft could be a thing. But I think its either Lucic or Monahan out the door

I think the Flames keep the team as is (maybe add an expiring contract) and then look to move Lucic or Monahan in the offseason. Hopefully Toffoli playing with Monahan helps him play better.

Maybe the Monahan to the Rangers, Sens, or Bruins? think he could get a 2nd or a B prospect on the high end.

I would expect: Johnny-8x$9M, Tkachuk-8x$9M, Mang-6x$5.5M, Kyilington- 1x$2.5-3M (UFA in two years so need to manage the asset), Don't resign Zadorov. Bring up Valimaki or Mackey for 3rd pair and maybe bring back Gudbranson. Just my guess.
