Description
Here is a full breakdown of the BLOCKBUSTER 3-way deal between the Leafs, Golden Knights and Kraken. I've tried to break everything down by both players and numbers to show my work. I am not 100% on how far this deal is for all teams involved, but I tried to make it as fair as I could, pending numbers. You will see that the numbers work for all teams and their salary cap situations. Also, you will notice, for at least a number VERY brief moment, Jared McCann is back with the Leafs so that they can retain 50% of his cap hit for the remainder of this season. Cards on the table, I have not given much attention to what this deal means for either Vegas or Toronto beyond the remainder of this season, especially with a potential Reilly Smith extension with the Leafs as part of this deal.

LEAFS ACQUIRE:
(1) Zach Whitecloud, D - Vegas (no salary retained) - $2.75 million 6-yr ext kicks in next year
(2) William Carrier, RW - Vegas (no salary retained) - $1.4 million AAV until end of 2023-24
(3) Reilly Smith, LW - Vegas (no salary retained) $5 million AAV, would need ext. in place for deal
(4) Jeremy Lauzon, D - Seattle (no salary retained) - $850k, upcoming RFA

VEGAS ACQUIRES:
(1) Alex Kerfoot, LW/C - Leafs (no salary retained) - $3.5 million AAV until end of 2022-23
(2) Jared McCann, LW/C - Vegas (50% retained by Toronto) - $2.94 million AAV, upcoming RFA
(3) Justin Holl, D - Toronto (no salary retained) - $2 million AAV until end of 2022-23
(4) Travis Dermott, D - Toronto (no salary retained) - $1.5 million AAV until end of 2022-23
(5) Ryan Donato, LW/C - Seattle (no salary retained) - $750k AAV, upcoming AAV

SEATTLE ACQUIRES:
(1) Evgeni Dadonov, RW - Vegas (no salary retained) - $5 million AAV until end of 2022-23
(2) Pierre Engvall, RW/C - Toronto (no salary retained) - $1.25 million AAV, upcoming RFA
(3) Nicolas Hague, D - Vegas (no salary retained) - $791k, upcoming RFA
(4) Mattias Janmark, LW/C - Vegas (no salary retained) - $2 million AAV, upcoming UFA
(5) Nick Ritchie, RW - Toronto (no salary retained) $2.5 million AAV until end of 2022-23
(6) Rodion Amirov, F - Toronto (prospect)
(7) Korczak, Kaedan, D - Vegas (prospect)
(8) 2nd Round Draft Pick in 2023 (Toronto)
(9) 3rd Round Draft Pick in 2022 (Vegas)

SALARY CAP BREAKDOWN:

For Toronto: $10.75 million AAV LEAVING minus $9.5 million AAV AARIVING = $1.25 in available cap space this season. (note: Toronto retains 50% of McCann salary for only this season)

For Vegas: $15 million AAV LEAVING minus $9.5 arriving = $5.5 in additional cap space this season.

For Seattle: $4.5 million AAV leaving minus $11.5 million AAV arriving = $7 million cap space less for remainder of season.

As always, let me know your thoughts!

Something I try to convince my girlfriend daily.

Sadly I think Vegas will have the same answer that my girlfriend does. "Not a chance in hell."

I think Vegas losing Hague and Janmark to Seattle makes it much more unlikely, they be losing a lot of roster players in these deals

I'll say you obviously put some real thought and effort into this, whether or not this is realistic is irrelevant, good job putting it together, well thought out and I appreciated the read.

Vegas kind of did this to themselves, they certainly have a lot of cap to move out to fit Eichel, and it's about time Vegas gets the raw end of a deal.

When both Eichel and Martinez hit the roster, Then they're definitely screwed and will need to make moves.

Nice that you made Lauzon the 7th Dman (where he belongs) and it cost the Leafs Amirov (or a first) and the good cost efficient Engvall. Ritchie and second for nothing is about right.

I appreciate the thought and effort into this but good god this is terrible for Vegas. Were not giving up Whitecloud, a RHD thats under 25 and locked up for the next 6 years under 3 million. IF were trading another RHD prospect in Korczak it better be for more than a rental year of McCann. Kerfoot is meh to me and the only asset that is under contract for next year. Hague alone could easily fetch more.

so VGK Trades a full middle six line in Smith-Janmark-Dadanov, then throws in an extra winger in Carrier. But thats not all, then we proceed to trade 3 defensemen, all under the age of 25 in Hague, Whitecloud and Korczak?!

I understand were up against the cap, but were not trading 1/2 a roster of good players for this lol

When you consider that any deal made mid-season with 2 teams that are cap-strapped, concessions of some kind will need to be made, even when including a third team. Also, I am getting the sense that Jared McCann is being overlooked here by a lot of Vegas fans. RFA at season's end and has already hit the 20 goal mark for the season. Can play in all situations, can play center or the wing, not afraid to get dirty and has great hockey IQ.

I am also curious, if I had included Nick Robertson in this trade going to Vegas, would that make the deal even? Not that Toronto would ever consider trading both Robertson and Amirov.

Thank you for all posting your thoughts and feedback. It's always appreciated, even if I don't agree with some of you.
