Washington want Lehkonen, per Serravalli on dailyfaceoff.com

I would say a swap Lehk - Samsonov would make sense, with a late pick going one side or another.

Getting a goalie AND rid of Hoffman? Im dreaming!

"The Capitals could potentially be on the chase for an upgrade at forward, a jack-of-all-trades type that could help insulate some of their younger players like Connor McMichael. A near perfect stylistic fit: Montreal’s Arturri Lehkonen"

Is there a caps fan telling me what would be the value of Samsonov? I’m intrigued by him, he’s a young once promising goalie who seems like he’s been struggling for a few years… Since Price probably won’t ever play again and that Fleury could go to Washington a fit could be there but that’s just my opinion…

A caps told me you can't asses his value due to his complete inconsistencies. I think there would still be a value though. Here's the person to elaborate with : @capsfan2121

Samsonov kind of an enigma. His stats have dipped since his first season and hasn't found that game to game consistency or a consistent stretch of 3 games and more. Nevertheless, he still has a really impressive record of 45-17-6. He was a first round draft pick and about to turn 25 in a week. I don't think he'd get a first round pick back anymore. A second is still likely or perhaps a guy around his age who can still produce but maybe just needs a change of scenery to get going, sort of like how Burakovsky just wasn't working here but in Colorado began to play more consistently and produce.

As a Caps fan, I do not want Hoffman. But what do I know. I think Sammy is tough to assess, but if I were the Caps, I would be very hesitant to trade him, especially with his low salary (that should remain low for another bridge deal). He has really great potential and is still very young. Sometimes goalies just take time to develop (especially ones that come from Russia - different style of play and different size of arena)

Washington seems to have big interest in Hoffman, he still has potential of scoring 30 + goals on a good team, your power play will be dangerous since ovi would not be the only threat on the pp. Hoffman doesn't have a terrible contract, habs are interested in samsonov, Washington would need a replacement for him, so Allen 50 % retained makes sense. While a Schultz, wideman swap makes sense for cap space.

Got it. I still stick to my point - I do not want Hoffman. He is older, horrible possession numbers, and a liability on defense. Totally agree with the 30 + goal potential, but I just don't see it. Look at Sprong - he has a 20+ goal potential, is young, and very fast, but is scratched somewhat often due to lack of defense. I just think the Caps need more of a 2-way forward

I don't think laviolette would play him lower in the lineup like sprong. Hoffman would be more of a mantha replacement, while not alot of the asessts will be gone. When oshie comes back you have the defense, and oshie + kuzy / Backstrom could cover for him on D, or he can play with eller + hagelin which would be a good fit.
