Your thinking behind this is immediately flawed. You are trading the Leafs a goalie, having them pay like hes their starter then saying they are saving enough money to pay their current starter. You had to choose between 2 roads and decided to plow through the trees between them.

Mrazek had an attitude problem here. After the Vegas expansion draft he wasn't protected and then he wanted out of Detroit. He has a 10 team no trade list and it's likely Detroit is on it. Steve Y also doesn't trade for players who have attitude problems. The picks would be nice. But it won't happen.

I wouldn't say Cossa is coming "soon" as goalies are usually 3-4 years minimum, even 1st round picks.

Kari Lehtonen. 2nd overall. 4 years until he was an established NHL goalie.
Carey Price. 5th overall. 3 years until he was an established NHL goalie.
Martin Brodeur. 20th overall. 4 years until he was an established NHL goalie.
Andrei Vasilevskiy. 19th overall. 4 years until he was an established NHL goalie.
Tuukka Rask. 24th overall. 5 years. until he was an established NHL goalie.
Jake Oettinger. 26th Overall. 4 years until he was an established NHL goalie.
Spencer Knight. 13th overall. Still not established NHL goalie...but getting there.

We likely won't see Cossa until 2025-2026. Just how it is with Goalies.

You did say it in that you said that they needed money to re-sign him. The only way the Leafs would need to make money to re-sign him is if he was making a big contact and the only way he earns a big contract is if he's starting. If he's making what Mrazek is now as a backup, the Leafs don't really have a money issue.

You are trying to solve 2 issues for the Leafs which are contrary to each other to earn the most back for your team. The thinking is flawed. The Leafs are either overpaying you for a backup goalie or they are paying you to take cap and their backup goalie which isn't really an issue for them. You can't have both.

Im sure there would be more to the deal to make everyone happy.
TOR gets cap space next year, alright back-up for the rest of the year. DET gets a guy that can play with Ned, and hes a Czech and we got all the Czechs! Well not yet.

Considering Nedeljkovic requested to be traded to Detroit because of his fiancé and her family live in Michigan. He is also the best goalie in the Wing's system right now, Cossa has a higher ceiling but since he is still in the WHL Nedeljkovic gets the title of best goalie in the Wing's system.

Id say 2 years in ahl and hes up in 2024-2025 so id have zero problem moving nedeljkovic at 1.5 if the return was too good to say no .... can always resign greiss and get a free agent goalie or 2 short term

From everything ive heard leafs want to bring him back , imo hes a good in a 2 goalie system where they split the starts and hasnt proved it near enough that hes a clear cut #1 and i think the leafs would want to make sure they have competent 2 goalies just to be safe otherwise them would be completely done

I dont think it should matter if he requested a deal , if we can find a too good to say no offer stevie would move him but yes by far atm hes our best goalie but i dont think were making noise yet for another 2-3 seasons so id consider doing it

I he hadn't requested a trade to Detroit he'd still be in Carolina. So he obviously wants to be in Detroit. Besides Mrázek has been horrible this season plus Nedeljkovic is worth far more than a bad goalie and a 1st at the end of the round .

I had never heard of him requesting a deal i heard carolina didnt think he was worth the money , i doubt he requested a deal to detroit and carolina did him a favour . Way i see it we’re still a rebuilding team despite some fans getting excited from this season. If we can get in another position as last season where because of a deal we were able to move up to grab someone we like alot like a cossa once again at the 2022 draft id do it withoutna second thought

Im willing to wait another year or two cause when we finally start making noise again i want cups not to be a middle of the pact team for 10-15 years . Nothing worse than that
