So you're stuck, you're having an identity crisis. As a religious man, I'd tell you to keep your head up and have faith. But God can't save this team, only the devil. The Flyers are trying to preserve their stubborn identity. This is admirable, but has gone on for far too long. What the Flyers need at GM is a villain who the Philadelphia fans can hate. He needs to be somebody who can make the tough moves and endure the suffering for the next three years.
So now I'll offer my thoughts. Feel free to help and say what you think, but I will go the Arizona route: blow it up (except for the part where we use the local university's rink)!
Now I'm no Flyers fan, I haven't followed them too closely, so I admit I might make some rash decisions. But that might be what's needed.
BRAUN, JUSTIN: Justin Braun has established himself as a physical, depth defender. Desperate to turn a profit for a UFA, we give him to Anaheim, who wouldn't mind experimenting with some older grit.
COUTURIER, SEAN: I'll admit, this is a bit of a forced trade. I have a soft spot for the Coyotes, and Couturier is from Arizona. Philly gets some rebuild help from a veteran rebuilder, and Arizona takes two steps forward but one step back. Arizona would be disinterested in trading any of their 2022 picks -- they've worked too hard (or too little) to get those picks so valuable.
GIROUX, CLAUDE: The Flyers don't want to see this happen, Giroux doesn't want to see this happen. But whenever the end of a road draws near, a GM should try to get something out of it, and once could most certainly do that with Colorado. The Aves really don't need Giroux, but Giroux in Colorado would make their championship odds that much better. They have no need for their picks, so they'll be fine parting with them. Ray Bourque had to go to Colorado to get his cup, why not Giroux? Note, please assume that Giroux agrees to sign with Colorado or else Philly has to return some of the picks, I forgot to add that bit.
HART, CARTER: Hart may be the last hope of future on the Flyers' roster, but he is the best hope to start the rebuild. This is also a bit of personal bias admittedly, I'm an Albertan goalie so I'd be super ecstatic to have Carter Hart. Now you're probably wondering why the Oilers didn't give the Flyers Koskinen or Smith in the scenario. Well, the Oilers' locker room actually relies on Smith for leadership, whereas Koskinen has a modifiable NTC, and if the did modify it I doubt he'd put Philly on that list. He's already put up with trash D for a long time. The Oilers do have a lot of extra young d-men prospects, and Samorukov will be happy to have a new place after the horrible way Dave Tippett treated him. Samorukov also makes it easier for Philly to retain a portion of Hart's salary. You're also probably wondering why I didn't get Keith, bad contracts are good business for rebuilding teams. But here's the thing: if Keith retires at the end of the season, the Oilers will actually have additional cap space next season. So if the Oilers do trade Keith, it will have to wait. Though with that said if Philly was to trade Hart, they'd likely wait until the offseason so they can get one more full season from him unless a team who wants to make some noise in the playoffs comes by with an appropriate offer.
LAUGHTON, SCOTT: Toronto needs somebody who can provide depth scoring and some hits, making Laughton a solid pick up. Laughton will have no future success in Philly, so Philly manages to get a good pick and a power-play d-man who Toronto does not need.
KONECNY, TRAVIS: The Kings are the perfect trading partner with the Flyers. They are overwhelmed with prospects who have no room to grow, and they could use some depth to shore up the few spots where they don't have prospects ready. With plenty of cap space, the Kings will likely be buyers either this and/or next season, and the Flyers will be sellers. Konecny is a solid pick up for the Kings and they give up most notably Samuel (surname is blocked on the site) who's a pure sniper, something Philly hasn't had in a long time.
RISTOLAINEN, RASMUS: A lot of people expect Ristolainen to get traded. He's an expensive UFA who frankly sucks, the only thing keeping him in the league is his physicality. So why not trade him away? Well Philly already played a (ridiculously) hefty price for Ristolainen, so they're obviously high on him. Plus even if Ristolainen manages to resign at his price he's not taking up any money that the Flyers would use elsewhere. They're rebuilding, and Ristolainen's physical nature will give Philly something to cheer about. I also believe Philly is the only place where Rasmus fits in. Rasmus brings the physical trademark the Flyers like to tout, and it's not like anyone else wants him.
Thanks for reading! This may not be the best for the Flyers (this is a CapFriendly account afterall), but it can't be worse than what has culminated in Philly. None of these trades will hurt the Flyers' chances to win (realistically) and all bring in picks. The only area I'm worried is do you guys think the return is fair? I kinda had fun stacking 2023 2nd Round Picks...
overpay for konecy, slight overpay for giroux as he is a UFA and will most likely resign back with philly, moving carter hart is absolutely ridiculous and why so little for couts? also hayes contract is immovable you will have to pay to move him or retain his contract down to 4-5 mill
I don't know who wrote that Hockey News article, but Faber is the defensive prospect that the Kings are least likely to move. All of their other right-side prospects (Durzi, Clarke, Spence, Grans, Strand) are offensive-minded puck movers. Faber is the only guy that is a defensively responsible two-way guy. No way do they include him in this deal.
I like Konecny, but not that much. I wouldn't give up Kaliyev or Faber for him. 2nd + ****emo and a defensive prospect like Grans or Spence is most I'd be willing to give up.
Yes, Carolina does need LW. But we need a top 6 LW, not someone that doesn’t even have a chance at cracking the lineup. Brassard is a pointless acquisition, as he will just rot on the sidelines, so Canes will just keep their 3rd and Leivo. Leivo has had a big impact when he has gotten called up by the Canes, so why should we trade him when he serves his role in the AHL really well.
At least the poster didn’t put too much efforts into it

There's little sense in including Kaliyev in a trade for Konecny since Kaliyev seems to be well on his way to taking a place at RW for us. The idea in adding Konecny would be to shift Kempe back over to the left side if Konecny works out on the first line, so we'd need Kaliyev if he doesn't. And Faber isn't one of our RD prospects we'll be giving up (along with Clarke). Any of Walker, Strand, Spence or Grans would be available. I like Konecny's term and I'd be a little more generous than my compatriot by giving you a first, but that's as far as that trade would go for me inasmuch as I don't see UFA Justin Braun as a need.
Interesting to go the pure picks route on the Colorado trade but there's no way the Avs do that for simple reasons. Salary cap, no retention and it would basically wipe out their draft for two years.

Who do you think would mostly likely take Brassard and gives picks for him?

I agree Hart is unlikely to get traded, but in this scenario Philly is blowing up everything. I will take your other input in into consideration and make edits accordingly.

Someone would pay a pick or two for Brassard, that I have no doubt of. But which team it would be, I would think a contending team that doesn’t really hit much or could use depth scoring. Maybe a team like Vegas, Edmonton, or even LA or Calgary would be a better fit. I don’t know who would trade for him, but someone likely does.
